    Range Report!

After a long, arduous wait that included waiting for a gun to be produced, and a lot of Maryland red tape that involved me having the gun added to the Maryland Handgun Roster, I finally got my Dan Wesson 2020 Stainless Valor this week, and I got it out to the range today.

For anyone saying that the 2020 Valor doesn't hold up to the quality standards of the older model Valor, I'm not sure what your standards are because this pistol is nice! If I had a complaint it's that the barrel bushing is really tight but that's probably to be expected on an unfired pistol.

Simply put, the gun is more accurate than I am. If I do my part, it lays them right in there.

I know that for break-in DW recommends quality ball ammo - 230 gr jacketed round nose. I have none. What I do have is plated 200 gr RN that I reloaded - 4.3 gr of Bullseye, I think - I'll have to check.

I did all my shooting at 25 feet at an indoor range, and it's pretty much right there as long as I do my part. These are my best targets of the day. What this tells me is that I need to get to the range not to dial In my own shooting a bit.

I also shot some lead semi-wadcutter reloads, and it gobbled those right up too, and it had no issue with any magazine I used - it functioned flawlessly.

Side by side with my Silverback, I'd be hard pressed to say which would be "better" - they are both great pistols.

I will say that I wasn't sure if I was going to like the sights, but I found them to work really well, especially with that bright orange ring around the tritium dial on the front post. It popped right up and centered naturally in the blackened "U" of the rear sight.

    I'm very pleased with it.

For some unknown reason, I’ve never been a big fan of Dan Wesson stuff but I have to say that is one sexy ass pistol!
    Beautiful!

Great writeup and pics, I want a stainless 1911 and this is on the short list now. A bit pricey so maybe that’s Christmas 2021.

Great shooting with a beautiful handgun. Congratulations.

    Beauty, eh?

I would be plenty proud of both. The shooting and the gun.
You guys are too kind about the shooting. I posted the two best targets of the day - I wish all of my grouping was that tight. But again, both of them are more than accurate enough provided I do my part.

They are a bit pricey, but it was softened some by getting a good deal on the Silverback, and being able to take advantage of the military purchase program through Dan Wesson/CZ USA. I got lucky on the Silverback - that was my 50th BD present in place of having my birthday trip canceled thanks to COVID 19. These are heirloom quality guns too - my kids will get these when I’m gone.

Figured I'd update the thread. I always liked the way the Dan Wesson Specialist looked with the VZ Operator II grips in hyena brown, so I ordered a set.

Here's the before/after. Improvement? I like it, and I can always put the original VZ black grips back on it if I need to.

Always liked those guns- thanks for sharing!
I'm pretty tickled with them - I've always been a guy who aims to try to find the sweet spot on quality vs price. As an example, I'm also a drummer, and I own good drums - the 4-piece shell pack cost me $1100 back in 2006, where as a comparable kit from the "best brands" would have cost me $2500-$4000. I just didn't seem to think I needed more than that.

I think Dan Wesson 1911s really hit that sweet spot. The fit is tight, slides are like butter, the triggers break clean at about 3.5 lbs, and no MIM parts. The next step up from DW IMO is Les Baer, but I'm not sure what more you'd actually get for the additional money spent.
