I need some advice. I'm surrounded by 30 acres of woods which is all privately owned land. I know this due to my father's attempts to gain permission to hunt the land that the owner lives now in massachusetts. Well there is easy access to this land from multiple points off of rt. 4.
Well I keep seeing different vehicles parked hidden in the bushes less than 100 yards from my house. I know they are hunting cause there absolutely no other reason for being in there unless they are dumping trash which is a whole nother ball of wax. Now I have no issue with someone hunting in there as long as the do it legally.
My question is should I call dnr to check it out to make sure they are allowed to be there or just not worry about it? If it's cool for them to be there I'm fine with it but if not I just don't want them there that close to my house and neighbors. Alot of kids a pets.

i would contact the property owner first, could be a friend/relative of his. then id go the police route. if they arent suppossed to be there, and the DNR wont help, a few nail strips will do the trick. ive had hillbilly trouble before too. :innocent0

I wouldn't want people trespassing near my property. Drop a dime on them.

Not up on my hunting laws but don't you need to be farther away? I agree with calling land owner first then dnr.

    depending..

150 yards away from occupied building etc. 30 acres is not big.. but also depends what surrounds it..

    speaking of which..

op: by any chance one of them riding a bicycle? LOL.. i saw one guy riding down route 4 this morning just south of prince frederick. bicycle with rifle wrapped in trash bag.

I picked up a really nice deer stand on my grand father-in-law's property last year. I gave it to a friend. Hope to get another this year. The only thing better than poachers are stupid poachers brazen enough to leave their equipment.

I hope you are armed and not alone. Serves them right.

I've hunted legally all over Calvert over the years. Same problem all over Calvert. No one has anywhere to hunt, very little good public land and they see farms/land everywhere. So they sneak in, knowing that the number of NRP folks is limited. I used to hunt a piece in the North end that was hundreds of acres. We would catch guys and they would say they were from 2 counties away and that a guy in the development adjacent to the property gave them permission. The homeowner owns 2 acres and we catch them a quarter mile into the woods.:mad54: They've even learned who owns the property so they know the right name to say when asked who gave them permission. Once they told the landowner that he gave them permission, stating his name. He told them, "funny...that's me and I dont ever remember giving you permission" doh:shocked:

Notify the DNR & let them handle it...

If they are legal, they'll show the DNR their written permission & continue hunting...

If they are trespassing, they'll be escorted off the property...

    It is NOT your property...

Stay out of the woods & don't provoke them...

Go back with my wife or FIL, an AR slung over my shoulder and a Glock on my hip. Grandfather-in-law has been dead for 6 years, so the house is empty. Only 2 people have permission to hunt on the land, and I know when they are going out and where they are set up. It annoys me to no end that people just do whatever the hell they feel like.

When you put the nails out make sure you put antihunting papers under the windshield whipers:lol2:

Or if they park side to side run a chain between there tires and lock it so they cant go anyplace.

But really call the police and report it, they have to be 150 yards from your house with out your premision to hunt and from the sounds of it they do not have your premission. 30 acres of woods isnt that much to be 150 yards from your house and have several hunters in a safe distance from each outer.

This. To hunt any property that is not your own or your parent's, written permission is required. They should have that on them each time they hunt. It will list their name, hunting property address, hunting license number and then the landowner's signature. If they have permission to hunt there, they should have that.

    Tresspass ?

where are you at off rt 4, be careful because if you mess with these guys and they do have permission they might have you arrested for interfering with their hunting rights, just saying.

If the OP is in the southern end of the county, that may get ERT out there, and if they are hunting legally, that may get him introduced to Ricky and Bubba (2 of the team members).

As said above. They have to have written permission. Let DNR sort it out.

Certainly have someone check it out. I'll agree with contacting the landowner first. He may wish to contact the police on his own and you can be left out of the situation altogether.

Back years ago we use to have lots of issues with guys coming off of the Myrtle Grove property and making themselves at home on our farm, tents and all set up on the back side of the property, for weekend hunting trips. We simply called DNR and the County police at the same time. However, that is from our position as "property owner".

Your position is completely different. However, if you can find a way to stay out of the lime light, I suggest doing that. Contact the property owner. If you can not. Then call the cops.

just stick a letter on their vehicle that your contacting DNR, if they have permission they'll still be there in the future if not they will probably go away.
