Thanks - found a hub model on clearance for 60 bucks and giving it a shot...

And agreed on the squirrel hunting. Never done it myself, but figure that's how well start and try things out.

Downside is deer get used to their environment and you’ve got better success when you can leave a blind up. Which you can’t (legally) on public land. I threw mine out an hour ago. A spike came in to my corn pile.

    He. Was. NOT. Amused.

Much stamping and glaring at it before he left.

That said, 10 minutes later I’ve got 7 deer out there now grazing away. A couple a bit more jumpy compared to normal. Good to get them acclimated to new things or be THE most inconspicuous possible.

If you get lucky and find a leafy blind it works better. Last one I found was on eBay. It is a ghille blind, with little fake leaves all over it. The sides are usually a jersey type material so it allows a limited amount of light through. This keeps it from looking like a big dark spot and more like light filtering through leaves. You are still invisible in it. This is one of ours, the model is The Choice.

Basically pop it up into a small tree or under a low tree branch. I’ve had deer eat on the branch I was under. Play the wind and you are good.
