Many faces of the SilencerCo Switchback *Range Report Added*

Range report added below as reply.

Short on Marlin Papoose; keeping the weight and length down on my pack/boat gun. 2.5" 3.2oz 126db

    Medium on S&W M&P compact; saving 2" & 2.5oz is a big difference over my old Thompson Machine. 3.6" 4.3oz 129db

    Long on Ruger 22/45 5.75" 6.5oz 114db

Optimized on TC Contender Carbine (35.5" oal), should be 108db.

I do love versatility. So far happy with the choice.
Unfortunately, hard to get to range now a days. If I had an accidental discharge while cleaning my TC in the backyard, at least I wouldn't bother my neighbors...

Got out to the range when no one else was there (read: cold... the sacrifices for the cause...). Using the DecibleX app on my phone laying on the bench, I got the following amateurish & unreliable (but, hopefully gives at least a relative performance) results:

Marlin Papoose; I normally carry this with MiniMags
    - w/o can, CCI SV: 117.9 MiniMag: 118.4
    - w/ Short, CCI SV: 113.2 MiniMag: 114.0
    - w/ Optimized, CCI SV: 107.5 MiniMag: 111.0

TC Contender; this was ridiculously quiet
    - w/o can, CCI SV: 116.5
    - w/ Optimized, CCI SV: 103.0

S&W M&P22Compact w/ CCI SubSonic; the same performance while significantly improving the handling
    - w/ Thompson Machine: 113.0
    - w/ Switchback Medium: 113.0

Then I shot the Contender at 25yds for accuracy. First with a plain barrel at the center target, then short configuration at top left, medium at top right, long at bottom right, and lastly optimized at the bottom left. It was interesting to see a fair POI shift in short & medium configurations but, go away in long & optimized. It also seemed like the group tightened up in optimized, especially if the farthest one is dropped (fingers were getting a bit cold at that point, & I'm a mediocre shot even when it isn't cold).
Most importantly, it adds ten cool looking points on the stainless guns...

I have one in rifle optimized mode on my m&p 15-22. I got it out of jail early last year. Have not shot it yet. Worried those 710 fps boolits i just got may not cycle but whatever. Will shoot soon.

The Switchback is definitely one of the best 22 cans out there today... you made a good choice, OP. If I was going to get a dedicated 22lr can, that would be it.

I'm impressed that the app was able to pick up any differences, regardless of absolute accuracy of the decibel readings. Pretty cool!

If you're talking about CCI Quiet, I haven't had them cycle a semi. Also at the ear, I don't really notice much of a difference with a can on (haven't tried running them through the Switchback), compared to CCI SV or Subsonics.

I save the Quiets for use in a gun that isn't running a can.

Also, keep in mind the POI shift will probably be significant compared to SV (might be a good science experiment to figure out the difference) :gun1:.
