I'd get one but I doubt any of the parts are made by Colt. I still wonder who makes their barrels.

It is the same upper that is on a Colt rifle. I have 3 Colt lowers, so wanted a Colt upper.
And yes, Colt subcontracts a lot of the parts.

I've got a backorder with Brownell's since February for a Colt M4 upper with the 14.5" SOCOM barrel.
Still waiting patiently.

Searched Brownell’s for that but couldn’t find anything that was listed as Socom or heavy barrel. All stated “government” or light. Have the item or stock# of your order? Thanks.

The barrel within is marketed as "Heavy Contour". That should satisfy any curiosity.

If anyone is on the fence about the MMC SOCOM barrels, the one I recently purchased direct from MMC has "HBAR" engraved on it.
$185 (after mailing list coupon) seems like a screaming deal for a mil contract SOCOM profile barrel, even more so now since they're HBAR marked.
