Hi, newbie here. Just getting into this hobby and it's very addicting... I'm interested in getting an AR15 and AK47.

I think Maryland banned sales of any AR15 unless it has a heavy barrel, is that right? So I can either purchase pre built or buy the upper and lower and assemble myself, but in either case it must have a heavy barrel?

As for AK47s, am I right that pistols are okay, and rifles with smaller caliber than the standard 7.62×39 are okay, but not a rifle that fires 7.62×39?

    Thanks!

Although it is not actual AK, get a VZ58.

You get a built AR, just an HBAR. You don't have to build it unless you want to.

    And correct about the AK.

    And a VZ 58 isn't an AK.

Buy a lower and build an AR pistol and you don't have to deal with the HBAR rule since its a "pistol"

All Kalshnikov rifles are banned, regardless of caliber (5.45mm or 5.56mm, e.g.).

The Arsenal SLR104 is chambered in 5.45 and is MD Legal
The Arsenal SLR105 is chambered in 5.45 and is MD Legal
The Arsenal SLR106 is chambered in 5.56 and is MD Legal

    Interesting to hear.
What is the difference between the banned and not banned models? The links are blocked where I am.

The Ban List bans all Kalashnikov rifles, as I recall, so I wonder how any Kalashnikov can be "not a copycat."

Is this for real? $209 for a complete upper, it must be made of potmetal.

Bear Creek has pretty reasonable reviews ...pretty sure it's not pot metal :lol2:

    From their web site :
    Forged to Exceed the Standard

Our state-of-the-art facility stretching over 340,000 sq. ft., employs over 250 employees, right in the heart of Sanford, North Carolina. With 245 of the latest industry standard CNC machines, Bear Creek Arsenal’s firearm output covers a wide variety of calibers, finishes, and fluting. Our barrels are produced from 4150 Gun Barrel Quality Steel Chrome Moly or 416R Stainless Steel, our bolts are made from 9310 Grade Steel, and our receivers are forged from 7075-T6 Aluminum forgings.
When you purchase from Bear Creek Arsenal, you are purchasing quality you can depend on.

This brings up a question I have been exploring for a while. I'm considering a 7.62x39 upper, and looking at gun shows and on line I see prices from (like this one) under $300 to over $700. I know there is a lot of cheap Chinesium out there, but is there really enough difference to justify greater-than-x2 prices?

I know , Md is the twilight zone .

FSA says all variations of Kalashnikov .
Various rifles that would seem on their face to be included , are listed on the Approved List .

Don't try to make sense of it . If somthing on the Approved List strikes your fancy , buy it now , bef4 MSP changes their minds again .

Where are you seeing all these Bear Creek Arsenal "terrible As They Come " reviews ?

Clandestine is the AR Whisperer. BCA is cheap. How can you expect their QC to be good? I would accept the word of a master gunsmith who does nothing but AR work. YMMV.

Okay, so a proper AK47 is banned. VZ may or may not be better, but it is not an AK47. Oh well.

As for AR, what's a good complete build that won't break the bank? I wanted a PSA but not sure if they have any MD compliant?
