Well done Chris. I've been hitting small blues off Thomas Point and many aquarium size hard head. Spot is really stocked this year probably due to the higher salt levels which unfortunately bring more CNR's too.

Went out a few days ago, very good LL caught our limit of Rock in about an hour. Had several spot bitten off by blues and said earlier plenty of spot, only took fifteen minutes to replenish bait tank.

Where did you see them in the patapsco Chris? Not asking you to burn a spot but am curious. I havent personally seen them up here in a few years... I was out around the drydock on sunday and didnt notice any. I heard guys were seeing them out around the Bay Bridge last week... probably the same pod moving around?

We passed them out in front of Old Road Bay just to the North of the shipping channel. This is the first time I have ever seen them in the Patapsco. I’ve seen plenty in the mid and lower Bay Area. Heard talk of them in the upper bay, on the eastern side this year.

That's awesome brother, I've lived in the sparrows point area all my life and have seen them up around Fort Carroll a handful of times when the salinity levels are up.

Stay safe out there brother.... hoping to be back out on Saturday. Gonna hit 7' Knoll and surrounding spots. Trying to stay away from the masses.

I just started getting into this, about a couple weeks now.
I’ve been fishing in the bay, south of the bay bridge. Anyone have any places theyd recommend?
Also, what are you guys using for bait? Are you fishing deeper waters? I tried bloody point Because it’s deep and I had a little bit of success.
I’m very new to this so I’ve been learning as much as I can. Any tips would be appreciated

These links will give you lots of good information on fishing the bay. It appears that you are bottom fishing so I would suggest targeting Perch using bloodworms or grass shrimp in depths from 6 to 16 feet. You can find them on the West side of the bridge just outside the pilings on the east bound side, at Hackett's Point, at the mouth of the Severn, on Weems Creek next to the Naval Academy and lots of other places. You can get bait at Anglers just off Route 50 on Whitehall Road or Marty's in Edgewater.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for that information. Actually, we were in the south river and caught lots of white perch a couple weeks ago. We are really looking for rockfish now. The last one I caught was in the late 90s. As for anglers, I was in there about a week ago, I bought some frozen bunker fish for bait. I’m wondering if I used chopped up perch as bait, if that would work for rockfish. I assume rockfish are familiar with perch in the bay and there are plenty of free perch

If you want rock fish, you need to either vertical jig the bridge pilings or use live spot. Use bloodworms or fishbites to catch spot in the same places you catch perch. Then use the spot to fish for Rock.

Rockfish don't like Perch as much as Spot, the spiny fin on the Perch. Spot is much preferred and small croaker are great but it is illegal to keep them that small:rolleyes:. The trick s to keep them lively in an aerated baitwell after you catch them. Then look for structure. The Rock hold up at structure and the BB pilings are the first choice in that area. You will have to anchor up and drift the live hooked spot close enough to the Rock to get a chase. You'll feel the spot get nervous, don't try and set the hook too soon though let the rock get it down then set it.
When Rock are in the area, the Live Bait will let you know with their twitching if no action at one spot, move to another until you find them holding up as they will move sides with the current. If you really can't find live Spot, Fresh peeler crab pieces work well for me. But the spot are plentiful right now and cheaper.
One good way to keep up on the latest hot spots is Rudow's FishTalk Magazine, a free weekly newletter. Check it out.

Great info, thanks a lot. The only question though is how do I catch spot instead of perch? The one day we were catching plenty of fish, they were all perch. We were using worms. Is there A particular type of bait or technique to catch spot?
