    Hey all,
Just joined as I am interested in picking up a rifle before this administration starts getting crazy and banning everything. 24 year Navy retired and looking to provide home protection and get to the range for some target practice with my son, who is getting to be old enough to learn about gun safety.

    Hey all,

Short answer on what you want to do.

Buy a stripped AR lower. Get parts. Ask the membership if somebody near you would be willing to help you assemble it. If schedules synch up, I'd be willing to help.

Get HQL if required. Buy handgun of your choosing.

Buy a Ruger 10/22 for cheap range plinking.

    Buy a shotgun.

Welcome from Rockville West. I'm in the same boat. With all the craziness, it's good to be prepared to protect yourself.

First, take your HQL class and then wait for your license. In the meantime, get yourself a shotgun. You can buy it and take it home the same day. You will then have something to protect yourself in your home while you wait for the HQL.

When your HQL comes in, get a side arm.

But, don't be in sticker shock if you shop in Montgomery County.
