No hoss, capitalism is raising prices to meet demand. The reason shit is selling out is because the demand has greatly increased and the price has not risen to match.

If people want to hoard shit at fair market prices, yes they should be able to.

    No, horse,

I didn’t say raising prices isn’t capitalism...yes anyone who has wiki-ed supply and demand or took Econ 101 knows the relationship.

You, however, sound like big brother who wants to control others or making them hurt no reason. If people want to hoard shit, why would you wish to punish them with raising prices? Just sound like a bitter person. It’s not hurting you (unless you can’t get toilet paper in which case your idea of raising prices will only hurt you).

    People cope in different ways.

Raising prices drives increased production. It's a good thing, ultimately; After the 2013 ammo shortage, production increased and brought five years or more of ready availability, at reasonable prices. Meanwhile, jobs opened up to meet increased demand.

Markets function rationally, until the govt gets involved and screws everything up.

I guess I should've clarified. Raising prices should've said price gouging as the original response post encouraged that behavior - made us as a whole avoid certain retailers during/after the 2013 ammo shortage.

You must be some sort of artist, because you completely lack the ability to think in economic terms. Bernie voter?

Is this what goes through your head when you're confused - Hm can't think of an adequate response. Let's go after the idea of a person I hate.

Early 30s. Male. Medical doctorate. Married happily. Registered republican. Plenty of toilet paper in the basement.

What's your A/S/L? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23934104? Here's a paraphrase for that reference. Are you fat, fertile, and forty?

So Doctor, please explain why you charge such high fees to sick people? Aren’t you price gouging them?

Coming south on 270 from visiting a client, thought I’d turn in to the Gaithersburg Costco and see what might appeal. Woops. Third World Sh!thole quality parking lot manners, place totally packed, and they called the county cops in to manage the idiots on the surrounding streets. Amazing.

Went down the street to do some other errands, and then stopped in at the Safeway on Shady Grove (which had most things stocked, and wasn’t crowded). But outside Costco:

I don't think the non-pharmaceutical medical field as a whole is known for changing prices for when theres a medical emergency. I'm sure there are a few physicians out there that may charge a certain patient population more or less depending on where they practice, but I don't remember any headline accusing hospitals of "price gouging" during a medical crisis.

Healthcare costs money because its considered one of the most valuable services. Theres a huge investment towards time (4 years premed/undergrad, 4 years medical school, 3-6+ years of residency) as well as tuition, application fees, licensure, CME, etc.

Medical reimbursement is much more of a complicated topic than supply and demand, something I'd rather not type on and on about. Anyways, my (not my personal) practice doesn't set the prices for reimbursement, the government does. My conscious and hands are clean so going "there" won't get you anywhere.

I didn’t think you had a good grasp of free market economics. Since the government sets your fees, you wouldn’t know capitalism if it smacked you in the face.

Freebie Sanders just spoke for 20 minutes about what the government and he thinks should be done. Basically everything instant, miraculous and free.

In conclusion he said everyone needs to listen to medical professionals and NOT politicians.

    Ok.

Did a quick check of how the socialist utopias of Scandinavia are handling the virus. It looks like they are going on lockdown for weeks and, despite their constitutions, banning private gatherings of more than 500 people. Violators are subject to fines and imprisonment. I guess an increase in deaths from alcoholism and suicide is preferable to deaths from the Coronavirus. Predictably the man in the street is most concerned about what the government is going to do to ensure that he continues to get paid.

I’m not worried about the virus, I’m more worried about the sheeple and their response. Also working for .gov I see on a daily basis how badly the organization handles what it’s tasked to do let alone handle this. I have no faith in the government.
