For every 1 community transmission person that they diagnose assume that there are 4-5 that they haven't (from 1-2 weeks ago), and some of these people have been actively spreading.

The press conference from the state officials in Ohio yesterday referenced that community transmission equates to an infection ratio of approximately 1% of the total population. Is that legitimate?

No. Population biologists are, politely, making fun of these numbers based on the extrapolation from 2 cases.

Trevor Bedford on Twitter is one to follow. He's the one that is linking the different outbreaks in the US based on phylogenetics and mutational analysis. He's a scientist at the Fred Hutch in Seattle (and knows his sh1t). He's commented on the Ohio numbers in his Twitter thread.

Since you are the Charlie Daniels of the food dehydrator, is it practical to dehydrate eggs?

My chickens lay way more than I eat so I give away a ton of eggs, but they don’t lay in the winter when the days are really short. I’d love to save my summer egg surplus for winter use.

Edit, you do know you can keep them laying through the winter just by having a light on a timer come on at 4am to simulate more daylight hours. Not as prolific but they still lay.
Yes! Some people crack them right into the dehydrator and dehydrate them, some dehydrate egg whites only, and some scramble and cook them and then dehydrate them.

I remember someone posting about this on the old MdPreparedness site.
If I remember correctly he mixed powdered milk in his scrambled eggs before cooking and dehydrating them to boost the nutrients. I don't know how long he was able to keep them after dehydrating though.

Very kind of you. I mostly come here to listen, learn, and converse with friends. I chip in perspective when able, and really do appreciate the breadth of knowledge you and others provide to this community.

Korea enduring! My daughter's elementary school lessons online, and me teaching university classes online (after 2 weeks of prep and having never done this before). The entire school system has to do this! Lucky for Mina, Korea already had a very robust online system in place for years, so not as bad for them. My classes.... well, let's just say it's good that the school has a system in place. The studio is jammed, so recording and editing is on us.

For those interested. Blood test overseas was negative and he made the last flight out! Blood is being tested here in the states while in a three day quarantine. then an 8 hr trip to Davidsonville. He did very well on the flight but was shocked when told there was no TP. We got lucky with timing as he was just gelded and had to heal, otherwise they say the pressure differentials at altitude would suck his guts out where his nuts used to be. So to relate this post to the virus, he was able to be "tested" twice, once overseas and now again here. I am more worried about catching the virus from the transport guy than the horse.

    Appreciate the update.

Fascinating they can test him but Doc T and partner can’t get an at risk patient tested.

Yes, that makes me wonder too.
Doesn't have to be FDA approved. The test isn't complicated for a halfway competent molecular virology lab. Several diagnostic companies also have tests now and probably would use them for animals but have to wait FDA approval for people (rapidly being given in some cases).
