I doubt it. At least all other examples in the rest of the world famine ends up causing a lot more deaths than wars and murder caused by famine.

Most people don't have it in them to attack someone for food, even if they are starving to death (and often too weak by the time they'd seriously consider it). Most of the deaths would be around the month 3-4 range. Figuring most people have at least a little food, maybe a little more now than before the pandemic started (though some are less food secure now. So not sure what the balance is there). Also trying to take in to account I think most Americans are considered obese now. So it would take them a lot longer to starve than someone who was already underweight from poor nutrition.

So you're saying I should them put them in the freezer now before they run off the fat :innocent0

Tomatoes are going bonkers in our garden this year. This acquisition seems like something prudent to have in print form. The companion pressure-canning book is en-route. The Wife objected to using lemon juice as the acidifying agent, so I purchased some citric acid powder. Seems like a common ingredient in many of the Ball recipes I skimmed.

A plot of land on a lake in eastern Tennessee.

    We close on 14 September.

    Congrats!

I’d love east TN, but can’t get past the shot selection of airports for work and to get to/from family. I hate ATL and Memphis is a little, but not much better... this is favoring KY between Cincinatti and Lexington...

This week the wife and I picked up a large chest freezer. There are zero stand up freezers around and we got lucky on this one. Lowes just rolled several out (guy didnt even get to stock them)and we grabbed one. By the time I loaded it on the cart all the others were also spoken for.

We just did a costco run and got a ton of meat. I thought we might have over bought but the haul only filled it 2/3 of the way up. Plan is to stock the kitchen freezer from the new chest freezer and then keep the chest freezer topped off from the store.

Also started a rotating canned goods stash.

Picked up a helmet from eBay for a steal, then picked up another one. I’m less than $200 for both. They are CVC DH132B helmets, paid $50 shipped each. Got some padding and chin straps from eBay and Amazon. I hope to find not find myself in a situation where they will be needed, but as they say, better to have it and not need it....

ETA: sorry that the first pic is crappy. I’ll try and get a better pic.

Bought an adaptor hose to connect my Coleman camping stove to a regular propane tank. It gives me more versatility in a grid-down situation.

Today I loaded on up 300 lbs. of chicken feed, powdered milk, a case of goose ammo, 150 rounds of other shotgun hunting ammo, 650 hollow point .177 pellets, and a rifle sling that was on clearance at Walmart for $2.00. I also got a manual tire pump since ours was ancient and never used since we got an air compressor. I did not have chickens at the start of Covid but I heard there was a run on feed. I'm hedging my bet against whatever fall brings us.
I have a growing respect for the ability of a good pellet gun to harvest small game quietly and efficiently.

Just an FYI; my oldest son (now adult) is somewhat lactose intolerant, so in the last couple of years before he moved out of the house he tried many of the new milk-like substances (rice, soy, almond milks), all of which IMO sucked.

I recently tried oat milk, and it actually doesn't suck. It tastes darn close to milk, is healthy for you, and shelf life is a couple of months vs a couple of weeks for the real thing.

I was also able to find it a few months ago when the real milk was not on the shelf often.

Pictured is 'Planet Oat' brand, the one I tried and have been buying for the past few months. Can't vouch for the taste of any others.
