Not exclusively 2A, but Chairman Smith is holding hearings in the interim on bills that are NOT YET OFFICIAL (meaning, they have not been presented to the Full Senate in a live hearing of the full body after the full body has been gaveled into session).

Next week's attack is on the Maryland Law Enforcement community; what comes next? Who knows...

Start watching the regular Annapolis crab wrappers, as I bet we start seeing more attacks on our rights outside of session, so that they can move bills quickly once the session gavels in...

Public disclosure of officer personnel records? What do they think that is going to solve?

Until we see the actual contents of the bill, we will not know.

If they are similar to past attempts:

    1. Open records of all disciplinary actions, even if the investigated incident is determined to be "unfounded".
    2. Automatic assumption of guilt with malice aforethought simply because "well, they're cops".
It's funny - the Maryland Pattern Jury Instructions - Criminal Section 2:04 state that deliberations are solely made on the evidence presented at trial. So, if we were on a jury and knew about the prior or additional currently charged, but not convicted, criminal activities of a defendant, we would be required to ignore them. However, under prior attempts at these bills, the "unfounded" investigations of LE complaints could and would have been considered a pattern of evidence of malfeasance on the part of LE.

I am really starting to despise living in this ********.

I've been watching for activity as well. We had Del. Atterbeary's police reform working group this summer. The critters are frustrated and restless. Nothing good comes from that.

google is your friend, I am not.
Most of the new gun owners I've talked to (and there are a lot!) are sympathetic to police reform.

If we are smart people will stay away from these divisive issues and focus squarely on direct attacks on the rights of all the new gun owners out there. Most of whom have different politics, skin color, and dont hero-worship police (and in fact have had negative experiences). If we have an opinion about something thats not directly 2a related, my suggestion is to STFU. Embrace brethern who disagree on topics like police reform.

Overall the number of new gun owners is huge, which will likely be good for 2A rights in Maryland. The #1 issue is concealed carry. If we cannot capitalize on the wave of new gun owners who will demand CCW, we all suck.

The good news is that the politicians are clueless. This years goal IMO should be to get new gun owners to write a letter to their critter.

That makes way too much sense. Let's try to keep medical marijuana, Planned Parenthood and mandatory masks mixed up in our 2A arguments. (Sarcasm sign)

I realize that there’s a lot mixed opinions here on various police actions, but there are a lot of insidious proposed bills.

Things such as repealing LEOBR, qualified immunity. Creating a presumption that any use of force is unreasonable. Prohibiting courts from issuing no knock warrants, regardless of the danger that the target may pose to others in the house or police. The list goes on and on.

What this is going to do is cause LEOs to leave in droves and the ones that remain will do nothing. You can imagine the quality of the replacements.

Until they vote out Democrats I wouldn't be so optimistic.

If you really believe owning a gun will change their politics, I have a bridge in New York I would like to sell you. Many new gun owners I have met are ok with the regulations. They do not see it as an infringement because they don't believe we have a RIGHT to own guns, just a government granted privilege.

Changing their minds is going to take an alien attack on the world as these people have been indoctrinated for 30 years. :sad20:

Most of the new gun owners who are Democrats will continue voting for people who are rabidly anti 2A.
They aren’t voting for the 2A only, in most cases they consider all of the social program BS first. While we may get a few who really begin to understand the importance of the 2A and may flip, there will not be a big surge.
Hell, we have some members here who claim to be pro-2A but vote for the same asshats who want to take them away.

Always with this crowd what cannot be done and how hopeless it is.

    smh.

My forehead is flat from smacking it against the MD GA for years.

All it did was slow the inevitable infringements. "Progress" is shorthand for getting screwed slowly by a cactus.

    smh.

I like your optimism. Please shed some light on how you’ll be getting two thirds of the state to suddenly stop thinking and saying what they’ve been thinking and saying for their entire adult lives, vis a vis guns, AND get them to vote in our favor on that topic when it’s bundled in, vote-wise, with every single other SJW instinct and policy backed by enormous piles of cash from people like Bloomberg, the public employee unions, etc.

What you’re hearing is that upending the left’s grip on this topic through legislation can’t be done. You’re ignoring that the people who feel that way are focused instead on both federal elections and their impact on the judicial fight that will actually help in this area. If you’ve got a secret plan to change the world view held passionately by the large majority of people in the state, you should share it now, even if you’ve for some reason not done so in the past.
