Does the new law apply to muzzleloaders? Looked through all the available info but can't figure it out.

No. Not considered a firearm so no need to go through a FFL. Only requirement is you cant buy or sell to minors. Prohibited persons I believe the problem is theirs to bare, so no background checks.

Muzzleloaders are classified as a non regulated firearm. That is why you can still have one shipped to your house, if you purchase from an online store.

    Generally speaking no .

Except for certain boomsticks like 1st gen Savage ML , T/C Encore etc that are considered Firearms by ATF for their ready convertability to modern firearms .

Prohibited people can own and shoot black powder(and substitutes) firearms. Along with archery equipment, all are considered "primitive weapons". Atlatls also qualify...

Federally and in Maryland, yeah. There are a small number of states that ban prohibited people from possessing black powder weaponry also. Not sure off the top of my head which ones. Maryland keeps trying to institute a ban because one time someone a decade ago (two decades ago?) shot and killed his girlfriend with a muzzleloading pistol.

Which is perhaps the only recorded use of a BP firearm in the last 50 years to be used in an intentional homicide in Maryland.

But let’s get on legislating a fix for what is obviously a rampant problem!!!
