    Meh - I don't know about that. Is there really THAT much difference between 4140 and 4150??

    4140 steel chemistry; numbers are % mass:

    Carbon 0.38 - 0.43

    Chromium 0.8 - 1.1

    Manganese 0.75 - 1

    Molybdenum 0.15 - 0.25

    Phosphorus 0.035 max

    Silicon 0.15 - 0.35

    Sulphur 0.04 max

    The rest is iron.




    4150 chemistry:

    Carbon 0.48 - 0.53

    Chromium 0.8 - 1.1

    Manganese 0.75 - 1

    Molybdenum 0.15 - 0.25

    Phosphorus 0.035 max

    Silicon 0.15 - 0.35

    Sulphur 0.04 max

    The rest is iron.
