I talked myself out of splurging on a high dollar progressive press. I want to go with either a turret or single stage press. Is there any place besides Midway and Brownells to search for decent deals. I like supporting small business when I can.

If you are loading any sort of volume... get a progressive press.
If you want small batch precision... Single stage.

I'm more into Shotgun reloading, but I totally agree with this...

6 handle (MEC 600 Jr.) pulls per shell on a single stage vs. 1 pull per shell on a progressive, can be hard on the shoulder for any volume of shells.

For comparison, I have 3 MEC 9000 progressives one each for 12, 20, and 28. The 12 is on an Automate electric drive. I have a 600 Jr. for .410. I don't load enough .410 to justify the cost of a 9000 progressive, but my shoulder and the clock both know it when I'm loading .410s.

T.I.A. The 12 and 28 9000's were my Dad's that I inherited. I had a non-electric 9000 for 12s and no 28 (gun or reloader) before inheriting these.

Look in the classifieds or post a wanted to buy for one first. It's not as if they go bad, if it's from a well made brand.

Don't have a press to sell now but do have a tumbler, scale, and powder measure in the classifieds.

You would have to search on shops local, sorry can-not help

First step, how many rounds do you shoot per year, per caliber?

If you reload, figure that number might go up, so I would double it.

Then, how much time do you have to reload.

With my Dillion 650, I can do 1000 rounds of .45 in around an hour. If you only shoot 500 rounds per year, even doubling means you will use the press about an hour a year.

As said before, depends on how much you plan on loading. I load about 50 rounds in 1\2 hour on a Lee Classic Turret Press. That's usually about all I do per session. It can also be used as a single stage press. Very well made and affordable.
