Any thoughts on the CZ Drake? I want to get back into trap and skeet. I was never particularly good, so I don’t want to go particularly high end. If I out grow it I out grow it. I figure I could use it for hunting if I ever get into it or if I bring a friend along.

I've had several Turkish side by sides. They were nice looking but their screws were soft and they broke firing pins. Just buy a few spares and they will serve you well. I used mine in skeet and sporting clays and had a blast.

I love CZ handguns but don’t recommend their shotguns. I’ve been shooting shotguns for close to 40 years and the Turkish guns have always been problematic. Find a used Browning or used Beretta and you’d be way ahead. There are people at the top levels of competition that use them with great success.

What problems? Just curious because I also looked at the drake, but ended up spending a little more and going with the redhead premier. I've had it for a year with no issues, but don't shoot it too often.

The Turkish guns tend to break. And the only people that’ll work on them are the manufacturers. If you shoot it a couple times a year it’ll be fine for years. If you shoot it a couple times a week it’ll break within a year. People want an over/under but don’t want to pay $2000+ for one. The manufacturers try to fill that demand with little success. Remington and Ruger, and Mossberg have tried it too. If you’re using one to hunt with it’s not a big deal because you don’t shoot a whole lot of shells hunting. If you shoot clays with it the target count goes up real fast. My buddy received a letter from Ruger 20 years ago telling him the gun wasn’t meant to be a target shotgun and he was shooting it too much. That was why it broke several times.

I traded up from a Stoeger and the CZ is a much better gun all around. Time will tell how it holds up and service is. Not everyone can afford a Browning etc so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. There’s a few of us at the AGC shooting CZs right now.

Awesome, thats probably where ill hit up first.

I am starting to wondering if I should go with a auto just for the single barrel. Ive never actually shot anything but a pump or auto.

I had the same thought and bought an O/U because I wanted a classic looking gun. Have you looked at the beretta A300? It's their entry level semi auto. A couple years ago they were around $600. Not sure what they go for now.

When an O/U is shouldered you don’t see the bottom barrel. Your site picture appears just like a pump, auto, or single barrel. That’s why the vast vast majority of competition shooters shoot O/U’s. The competition shooters spend big bucks on their guns, ammo, entry fees, lodging etc. Like boat, RV, motorcycle, or vacation home expensive.

The Beretta autos are great guns and not just because I shoot a Beretta!

If this is for hunting, or very light clays use, that is a fine gun. If you plan on shooting a lot of clays, it's going to break.

over under or side by side really shouldn't matter, you should be looking at the target not the barrel. It costs less to make a semi or a pump to a quality level then it does for a OU or SxS so you can get a better quality gun for less if you are happy with that.
I prefer double guns preferably side by side but I have all of the above.

Spoke to the director of our trap league he has had his CZ drake for 3years. He shoots a lot. (Round count in the thousands, I can give you the exact count when he gives it to me, very meticulous man) No issues so far but CZs customer service has won him over the last 9years with other guns. PM me if you ever want to meet at the AGC for public trap on Wednesday night or Sat/Sunday. If you’ve never shot there 1200fps or less sizes 7.5,8, or 9.

You can read up on advantages but if you shoot skeet having an OU allows you to have 2 different chokes to maximize your shot patterns. The extra weight is helpful to mitigate recoil there’s so many options depends on what you’re looking for.

Any thoughts on Mossberg over and unders? Who knows if I could ever find one, but prices seem great

I've thought about getting one for a while. They're also turk guns, but definitely handle like a gun that's a lot more $$
Buddy of mine had one the last time we hunted geese and it swings nicely.

Tha Tackle Box down here in St Mary's had em in both 12 and 20 at MSRP

Martman ps my club is hosting a shotgun shoot 3/28 from 9-2 at the AGC it would be a great opportunity to come out and try many different shotguns. Just bring 12 and 20ga ammo 1200fps or less sizes 7.5, 8, or 9

I've used my CZ (Huglu) O/U for bi-monthly trap shoots since purchasing it in May of 2017. It's the "Mallard" model, not the Drake. Not sure what the differences are but mine has two triggers and the receiver is silver. I did some rough estimates and I have at least 4100 rounds through it since it was purchased.

The club where I shoot trap has everyone's scores recorded electronically so I can see how many months I've shot since May '17. I missed a few months over the years but I've also shot a lot of the "fun shoots" we do every month as well. Those I typically shoot either with the CZ or a Vepr-12. Anyway, I likely have closer to 5000 rounds down the pipe of the CZ but I know for sure it has at least 4100. No issues. No hiccups. Only thing I changed on it was the butt pad. I use a Kick-Eez pad instead of the original hard rubber pad.

I like it so much I keep my eye out for others on GB. So far I've only ever seen one pop up, which I bought. NOS model and was less than what I paid for my first one :)
