Looking at some of the other knife posts, is there a protective oil you can use on knives that won't be an issue if you decide to use the knife for food prep?

I use Ballistol. I think they have a specific food safe product, but I'm personally not concerned about using the original/standard formula on my knives.

I can't think of the product name offhand , but once upon a year in Blue Press that had a product that was Dental Drill Lubricant repackaged for the firearms market .

Not really since the 60s but ok. Dating yourself Doc? They got this stuff called Miralax now. Or for me a lot of mozzarella does the trick.

You’d be surprised. Wait until you are old. I have a lot of folks add mineral oil to their Miralax. Bowel fixated old folks are no joke.

Wife was prescribed it after some issues following childbirth. It's still a thing.

I thought it was a known thing that people use mineral oil as a protectant on their carbon steel kitchen knives. Is that not actually a thing?

Lol. It is. I use it on my good kitchen knives. The point of mentioning it is used as a laxative was to emphasize the safety.

My knives are so good, they don't need no protection...
