I've been thinking about oil types and had an interesting thought.... is there a reason a synthetic 2-stroke oil wouldn't be better than something like mobile 1 for guns? The only thing that comes to mind is that it may burn off easier, but when burning off, it should leave much less fouling than regular car oil. They also generally have more detergent and a bunch of wear additives like zinc based compounds. Sooo, what would be the downside to using synthetic 2-stroke oil rather than something like mobile 1?

I use STP or aftermarket equivalent. Small tub with slot cut into lid and acid brush. Little dab will do ya when you need something to stay in place on cams, pins, rotating square threads, extractor grooves, bolt sleeve contact surfaces etc. etc.
One of those little blue plastic containers it comes in will go a very long time.

I stopped by the Advance in Westminster this week. They had the regular gun oil for about 75 cents, and the heavy duty stuff for maybe 1.40 if I recall? I got a few bottles.
