If I could I would go back to 1988 when I was offered up to 3 m-16's at $1,000 each. I had the money then but was just a little leery being as how it was a janitor working at APG who I was talking with.

Dad turned down a $1200 MP5 because my grandpa ranted and raved about "stupid guns like that"

Be friends with those with them and supply the ammo/share the ammo. I’d rather blow through $500 worth of ammo than have $50k sitting in my safe. Brings me the same level of satisfaction :)

Not sure what other people do, but personally I'd never finance a hobby. Save cash until you can buy outright.

Everyone's got their toys, know fellas with $20K Harleys and Ducatis, and you wouldn't catch me riding in this area. Don't wanna be killed by a soccer mom texting. When I cross the Bay Bridge I see some boats that easily top $50k, friends I fish with have $25k bass boats. Just depends where you spend your disposable income. Not like i have any of those or full auto, but when I win the lottery...

While the 1% may indeed be only a fraction of Americans, it's more folks than you might think, especially in this area. I know more than a few people that could drop the dough for a transferable machine gun without thinking. Hell, I know a few that have.

    Simple question.

Are people taking loans out? Saving long term? Selling a ton of stuff to buy one thing?

I'm not talking a $5k Mac. I mean like a Thompson, M16, belt fed stuff. The class 3 guns that get really costly.

I know some people are just wealthy so it's less of a thing but folks in that position don't constitute all NFA owners. But for guys such as myself (I do decently, pay the bills with extra and live well below my means) that much money for something full auto seems unachievable in my life time.

I hear some folks pay for them by the number of quotes in their signature. :innocent0

It's not really any different than buying a fancy car or truck, more a matter of where your priorities lie and whether you have cash to spend. The biggest difference is that unless the law is changed, your NFA goodies are likely to accumulate value unlike that new truck!
