That is where I am at. I have a 6" and 10" at the 20 yard range at home. I tell the wife and kids hit the 10" at 20 and you'll have no issues resolving intruders in the house. Then refine on the 6" to fix trigger control. But it seems I got a loooong way to getting near John. ;)

I've been shooting since I was about 8 years old. Practice makes you better. :D

Yep that’s like me, good enough for home protection. Although I have taken deer and hogs with a handgun, but I practiced a lot more with handguns then, than I do now.

To me, in a home defense situation I look at handguns as a tool to fight my way to a better weapon. (rifle/shotgun)

So I pan lubed a bunch of 200 grain pills. Got to do this some more to learn the tricks I guess. First tome I only poured up to the crimp groove or just below it. Got a few out but the lube cake around the bullets cracked and it pulls the lube out where it cracks. Got the ones I could out and started again.

Put the pan cake and bullets left back together and dropped new pills in the harvested holes. Heated pan in the oven at 200 and microwaved the lube in my Tupperware. Pulled the pan when melted and poured more lube half way up the round nose. Let it cool an hour or so and I think I could have let it sit longer, not sure. I figured the bullet would skip better moldy warm. They came out my I got a lot of loose lube on my fingers. I should have started on cartridges my fingers were full of case lube :D

Thinking it might be easier to lube the 255 grain pills. I got 200 to save lead and might just slowed myself down being cheap.

I’ll compare these to the 19 powder coats I have. I don’t have a chrono so it’s only accuracy and general shooting I can test. The lube is 1:3 beeswax to deer fat. I had use 50/50 before for lubing wads but it just seems so hard. This melts easier and faster but it fairly hard at room temperature.

Back in the sixties when we used to pan lube bullets, dad used a brass tube to get them out of the pan. Just push over the bullets and as you push on one, the others come out. I don't ever remember the lube cracking as it was a mix of beeswax, candle wax and mineral oil. (as far as I can remember from 50 years ago )

Yeah, not sure where to find the tube in .452 to slide over them. I'll be walking all over lowes with a micrometer measuring every tube and pipe for Inside Diameter.

Thin wall brass tubing sold for hobby use comes in a variety of sizes. It is measured by the outside diameter and each successive smaller sizes can telescope into the previous one.
1/2" OD thin wall has an ID of 0.472" which is the closest I can find.

This is the part from McMaster Carr. But the same stuff is available at hobby and hardware stores.

I pan lube all of my muzzleloader bullets by just heating the lube until it’s all melted.
Then I just dip my bullets in the lube to the height to cover the grease groves, then set them on wax paper. You just dip them quickly.
I wouldn’t see why this method wouldn’t work for what you are doing as well.

This is what I do. I use the same hot plate I use to warm up my molds.
Lube is in a cut soda can. (I have a big tub of Old Trappers MCM lube I use)

I then size them on a sizer on the press. Are you sizing yours or what after you dip it?

I’m lucky enough that I only have to size for one of my muzzleloaders. I size them with a push though sizer before I lube them. My 58 cal bullets from the mold come out 578, I size them 575.

Lyman lists, for a 200 grain SWC in .45 Schofield a starting Clays load of 4.0 grains to give 747 fps and 7,000 cup (4.5gr max at 853fps and 10,300 cup)

Delete, I was pontificating on why the data was so far varied.

EDIT I just saw 45 "Schofield" and not Colt and that is a shorter cartridge and Lymans book shows lighter chargers for it and higher pressures for the same weight charge.

Finally got some loaded and did 5 PC and 5 naked lubed. Think I like the naked better but I have to bench rest test to know. Me at 20 yards. Just isn’t like John shooting ;)

Going to load the rest. 4.6 grains of clays. This powder seems very light and static controlled. I had a hard time getting the Lee perfect powder measurer adjusted, but repeated attemptys finally was able to get it square even with tap tap filling and tap tap to empty. Some would hang and give me one light charge and the next one 5.5 grains. I got it set and my rhythm to get consistent charges finally

So I accidentally hit the bullet on the edge of the crimping die and .. My CH press leans back and I’ve since learned slow until in the die works better

It’s live and charged and I’d have screw into it to pull it. Can’t throw away a live round can it still be shot in the revolver to empty it?
