So I’m building an AR-22 pistol for ultimate plinking fun. I ordered a 4” barrel and a 4.5” inch Midwest combat rail. After wayyyyy to many hours of hunting around I also ordered a Midwest linear comp to round out the package. To my surprise even with the 2” comp the muzzle is about .5” from reaching the end of the HG. I had no idea that because of the design at least 2” of the barrel is actually inside the upper. Hopefully this post helps someone else from making the same mistake. So now I’m waiting on the new Midwest blast shield to ship out so I can finish the build. Well finish the upper anyway since I’ve also pre-ordered the new Midwest folding stock. I haven’t been this excited about a new build in a long time. Pics to follow, and I’ll just update this thread as the build progresses.

They end up about 1.5" shorter than an equivalent 5.56 barrel. It is an awesome barrel though, pretty accurate and keeps everything subsonic. I use a kak slim line flash can as a thread protector and to shoot without a suppressor, and clear the handguard. My 5" long DA Mask ends up bringing it to 7.5"

Looks good. I haven’t decided on an optic yet, but am leaning toward a Holo 507 on a Scalerworks mount. A can is also in the works.

Just got a notice from CMMG. My order status has been changed from "snowballs chance in hell" up to "back ordered" for my .22 upper. :party29:

Almost there. I’m just waiting for the new Midwest folder/Tailhook Mod 1 brace, and the Midwest Blast can.

I have the 4.5" barrel and a 7" handguard with a form 1 stainless steel suppressor.

All done except for the red dot. I’m thinking open emitter, maybe a Holosun 503. The Midwest folder is brand new, and very well made. The Tailhook finishes it off very nicely.

    Looks awesome

Thank you, I really like this lower and folder set up. I’m debating on picking up a BRN180 .300 blk. to share this lower. The Rise trigger is better than I expected for the money. I have a Bettermag adapter, but for now I’m going to run the Catch 22 as the Bettermag seems more “permanent”. I picked up a pile of S&W 25 rounders at a gun shop in Va. so I’ll be exclusively using those.

What kind of accuracy is everyone getting with these?

My build with a 4.5” cmmg barrel and bolt seems to shoot worse than my Ruger mkii. I had low expectations but am a bit disappointed.

That will be sweet, I really like the skeletonized folding stock/brace setup, you know it is something unique, have seen a few with the BRN180 and Sig MCX builds pulling double duty with dedicated 22 uppers

My Ruger MK4 lite is so freakishly accurate it takes something pretty good to top it. Have gotten 10 shot groups under 1" with CCI SV ammo at 50 yards, it shoots as well as any decent rifle, including my 4.5" AR-22. I can usually get 1" or better at 25 yards with either, they are pretty close although the Ruger may be more mechanically accurate, but hard to tell, the AR-22 is easier to shoot vs most any pistol. Both of mine are topped with reflex red dots, might be able to shrink the groups with magnified optics, but the AR-22 was built more for fast shooting on steel at close range, so wasn't really chasing accuracy with it.
