Man, I have been using that Pryodex in my inline that my daughter now uses and complained about cleaning it. My hawken cleans easier with BP.

So asked at a shop last year and they suggested 777 and I just shot it in and I think it was more accurate with the 240 grain Lee REAL on a 9/16" felt wad than the Pyro and two swabs and the barrel was clean. The entire back area cleaned with water.

I'll never shoot Pyrodex again. Now, how to I "dispose of 1/2 a jar of Pyrodex?" Spelled need some interesting ideas to blow up or burn.

    2. Save in case 777 becomes scarce. Always good to have a backup. Kept in original container it will still keep for years. I have both pellets and powder that is old, but still works.

As long as you clean after a shot or two, T7 is great. If you shoot a half dozen, it starts to build a hard carbon ring just where your projectile sits. Subsequent shots lose consistency due to this.

Blackhorn 209-Look it up. Only way to go. 25-30 shots between cleanings and cleans with regular cleaners very easily (Hoppes 9 etc.)

FYI All,For inlines and some require/suggest a modified breech plug (CVA) and shotgun, not mulzzle loader primers. I've had great luck with it and even tested cleaning between rounds and not cleaning and it was pretty negligible. Its not cheap (or at least wasnt when I got it)

I used this in my sidelock and when we had a powder scare long ago, I duplexed it with 15gr Goex with 60 gr BH209 on top of it with a side lock. Goex gave it good ignition.

This could be Rob's reason to buy a real cannon!

 I think my wife would be screaming F NO! where she knows it is a toy I can blow crap up with and possible maim myself and others.

You know there would be plywood testing with the effectiveness of grape shot, nail canister and so on. Certainly would make good video though :D

I've been shooting my Encore ever since I got it (close to 18 years?) using the Trip7. The gun has always shot sup MOA so I never had a reason to experiment. I just bought a T/C Omega so I will no doubt do some experimentation with some of the newer BP substitutes.

I've found using 777 is very Easy to clean with windex. Works really well to clean reach plug after long range session. After cleaning, quick wipe with dry patch, followed by light oil.

In addition, I will never use grease on the breach plug again. Years ago, I switched to high pressure teflon tape. Night and day difference in sealing, cleaning, removing after range session. Before I switched, I could go maybe 9 shots before I had trouble removing plug, now I can go double or triple that with no problem.

And I use 90gr 777 loose powder and Hornady SST in red sabot.

I found the pellets left a crud ring just about where bullet should seat (previous post mentioned that), whereas the loose powder doesn't leave the fowling right in one spot.

I started using the silver anti seize paste. just a little on it. It darn near seized using Pyrodex. First time I used that paste I spent more time cleaning it off the gun, the table, my clothes and everything else. Found out just a little is all you need. :D

Byron, I'd be interested to see what you use. But, with a pound of 777 and the way my daughter hunts, I'll assume I'll be retired before I run out. ;)

If you gave a wood stove, a black powder powered splitting wedge is also available, to have fun while you work.

I agree on the Blackhorn 209. I have used the pellets, pyrodex RS, and 777, and found the Blackhorn to be the best choice. Cleaner RE than 777, which allowed me to shoot and load more rounds before I needed to clean it, which is what you need for hunting. I use 777 in my black powder revolver, but 777 in my inline rifles.
    Hope this helps.
