    Hi all,

I ended up getting an Uberti 1858 in .44. I loaded it up today, but it took 2 strikes to ignite the CCI #10 caps I used. Did I do something wrong ? Should I try the CCI #11’s? I noticed with the #10’s that they stood a little to high even though I thought I’d seated them properly.

    Thanks in advance !

The cap detonates when the bottom of the cap is crushed between the hammer and the rim of the nipple. If your caps won't go all the way down onto the nipple that's why you had to pull the trigger twice to get a detonation. Buy a tin of 11s and try them. I have two cylinders for my 1847 Walker. The original one came with nipples that number 11 caps fit and the cylinder I bought later came with nipples that number 10 caps fit so I have a tin of each.

Hmmm use both 10's and 11's on my Walker they always go bang but the 11's will slip off pretty easily. Hopefully you're getting the WHAM from your hammer that you should get.

My Pietta will take 11's but make sure they are tight on the nipples to prevent a chain fire. I have to push #10 on fairly tight.

As Muleskinner said i don't think your cap was all the way down and the energy to push down and spread open the cap reduced the left over energy to not enough to explode the cap. Try pushing them down a bit harder with your thumb.

Use number 11's and pinch them before putting them on the nipples and they will work just fine.

Ubertis seem to like #11. Piettas like #10 as I've read.

I tried the #11’s but they kept coming off under recoil. I have a bunch of CCI #10’s though. Does anyone know of an aftermarket nipple that works with those?

Check Track of the Wolf they sell stainless nipples that are designed to have the caps fit snug
