I live in Frederick County and there's nowhere around me to shoot! Cresap Rifle Club isn't terribly fun - overbearing safety officers, can only change targets once an hour, etc.

If anyone near Frederick County has land that I can shoot an AR15 on, I'll pay cash for access!

Why don't you go to the introductions thread and tell everyone a little about yourself.
My guess is that most people wouldn't let someone whom they've never met shoot on their property due to liability concerns.
There are other ranges around such as Hap Baker, AGC, etc. , I'd look into some of those.
Best of luck, enjoy your stay here.

How far are you willing to drive? Is 30 miles too far? Is 100yds enough distance? How much are you willing to pay per hour? $50?

Peacemaker is about an hour from Frederick. The unescorted nonmember fee to access the Independence range is $40. You could also just join it for $200.

    OP,

How much are you willing to pay for that one round that might get away?

That is the issue with Maryland, unless you are in a hilly section with a very tall backdrop, everything else is extremely flat.

As a very new member, as in less than 1-2 years as a forum member and 1 post, I doubt highly that any member would be willing to allow you to shoot on their property. We don't know your proficiency, safety standards, ethics, or morals, in regards to the shooting sports. Would you be willing to sign a waiver that would not allow you to hold the property owner liable for anything that could possibly happen to you, while on their property and would hold you liable for any damage or issues that arise in the property, whether they could be faced to you or not? Didn't think so.

I suggest that you join a local club, like a IWLA or other gun club. You can also go to Heritage Training Center or The Machine Gun Nest in Frederick.

If you think the RSO's at Cresap are overbearing, then you don't know how people will be with their private property ranges. They will make Cresap RSO's look like a walk in the park. Remember, the property owner has to live there and stay in the good graces of their neighbors.

Spend more time on the forum and eventually a member might offer to take you to a private club as their guest.

Case in point: I've been invited to shoot at numerous clubs by fellow members and am grateful that they invited me. But the only way that happened is because I was active on the forum and established as a member.

Give it some time and it may happen. Get to know us more and allow us to get to know you better.

I'm looking to drive about ~45 minutes. I'm willing to pay $40 an hour and only need 100 meters.

Isn't there a conservation club up around Thurmont you can join that has land and a range? If I recall they you could camp as well. It's not Izaak Walton though. Can't recall its name but I think they had Schutzen Competitions. I used to be semi-interested but fell off of that interest a long time ago.

Speaking of Izaak Walton, I think the one near Mt. Airy mitgt have a 300 yd range. But that's another membership, place.

NRA HQ has a 50 yd range down in Fairfax. For proximity sake though you can always go to The Machine Gun Nest for some basic shooting. I know it's only 25 yds, but you can make it useful.

I posted this same question a couple of months ago and got 0 response. The range closest to me (Im in Hickory) is indoor and I don't really like the vibe there. All the private clubs that I've seen are full and waiting lists are exhausted. One of my neighbors shoots every weekend but I'm not sure which one it is and I aint going on nobody's land without an invitation. Good luck.

Refer back to posts 6-11 as to why there was zero response or people flat out said no.

Sometimes you have to embrace the suck and put in for a private club.
