Got an email yesterday from SA talking about new products. The Range Officer is now available in stainless and they also have a Range Officer Operator model that doesn't have the target sights and adds a rail.

I feel the same way about a 1911 with an external extractor. ;)

I hope this isn't a giant photo........I went with the Colt Gov model 1980XSE.......I love it's looks a ton, loved the price, but admittedly haven't shot it yet so I can go any further. Sunday I can probably let you know how she shoots. For the record those aren't scratches just oil.....IPAD camera is some doo doo

    It's a beauty though!!!

Why not start with the real ones...USGI 1911(A1)...Colt, Remington Rand, Ithaca, US&S. Cost a little more, but they are the real deal. I own all of them and prefer them over the aftermarkets, even though they are great, too.

Have a nice Sig Sauer Scorpion in 1911 style that I like and sold a SA 1911 a few months ago that was pretty nice at $800 out the door. Also have a Kimber Ultra, 3" carry size (it is for sale on GunBroker) and a Kimber Gold Match II that's pretty decent.

Lots to choose from...enjoy looking and I guarantee one will NOT be enough.

The 1911 was my duty piece.

I have the Range Officer and a Colt and several other 45s.
I can't explain why but the RO 'feels' better than any other.
My step sons have said the same thing.
Lots of good choices out there but the RO is definitely worth considering.

Clandestine has a thread about 1911 pistol quality, if you want to search...

I ended up with an American Classic based on recommendations while searching and asking just as you are. Very nice weapon. I'm just getting the trigger replaced and getting worked on while its in the shop because the holes look ugly to me.

my buddy has a colt 70 and those sing tunes succint.

Springfield RO. Great gun. If EdRod68 didn't shoot in an outdoor bullseye league that runs all winter long he wouldn't have any issues with his. ;>)

Going completely different; right before 10/1 I purchased a RIA XT22 combo (XT22 with extra tac .45 slide assembly). Great for the price.
