Ordered tru Optics Planet. Tried saving a few bucks but now I wish I would have just ordered from Criterion website. All kinds of rust in the chamber.

I would send that back. If it corroded there, it could be corroded in the actual chamber or bore when a bore scope takes a peek.

Did you get another from optics planet or directly from criterion? I was going to buy a criterion barrel from optics planet but seeing this made me hit the brakes.

I have been having problems with Optics Planet. I ordered a desiccant kit from them for my high pressure air rifle. I got a package and it had one container of desiccant and that's it. It was supposed to be a desiccant container and two bags of desiccant. I called and got a woman who couldn't find her a** with both hands. Finally, she looks on the computer and says they will have to get one from the company they bought it from and it can take a couple of months.

It appears they may be selling products that they don't have in stock. I have yet to get my kit and it is going on over a month. I contacted them twice and they came up with an excuse both times.

I used to think it was a good company but I can't recommend them anymore.

They're well known for this/drop-shipping products from manufacturers/distributors.

I always thought CBI barrels were only available through selected dealers. CMp and Chuck Moline come to mind first, for which Chuck doesn't handle them any longer as far as I know. DGR was another one. I didn't know Optics planet was on that list so I"m skeptical for the information in the original post.
One of their reps used to troll this site and would pm you for question and answer or tech help if you needed it. Real nice guy.
Ive used a whole pile of their products for re barreling vintage rifles and never seen any bs like that delivered to my door, hence my skepticism but anything is possible I guess.

Optics Planet sells Criterion barrels on their website. I just checked a few minutes ago . Like Botach, it is rarely a good idea to order online from optics Planet, even when they list items in stock. They used to offer a chat where a representative could tell you if they item was on hand or not, and they would bill you directly for it. Or you can call and order.
The last time I made the mistake of ordering something online from them instead of calling directly, I ended up waiting about 6-7 months. I could have cancelled every time they contacted me to let me know it was getting pushed back, but the price was good, I didn't need it right away, and I got reimbursed by work as soon as I ordered. That said, when I have called directly I have never had a problem with them. I have also used their Dvor subsidiary (I think they own it?) and that stuff ships quickly.

100% believe OP's story. It absolutely sounds like an Optics Planet order.

I sent it back and did get a full refund from Optics Planet. Never did get around to ordering one from Criterion directly. Not sure what’s so skeptical about my original post.

I'm not skeptical about your post, but now I'm skeptical about ordering from optics planet.
Thank you all for sharing your experiences.

CBI barrels were only available from exclusive distributors for the longest time. You could never buy one directly from them only through a secondary distributor that was identified on their web page or the cmp. Quality control and tech was second to none with the products like a poor mans Krieger.
Looks like optics planet has made the grade. Sorry to see yours was water damaged and needed to be returned. Glad to hear they made it right on their end and refunded your money.

I have seen the corrosion issue on a few exactly like the O.P.'s, as well as a few that had short headspace.

Criterion makes good stuff but they are not perfect.

Usually that is the case (that they are selling things they don't have in stock). IMHO, I am pretty sure that is largely why their prices are lower. They don't have much warehouse space, so they do "just in time" orders with suppliers once they have sufficient orders for items from a manufacturer. Which is why most of the time it takes them 2-6 weeks to actually ship something out.

Also why I won't order from them. I've heard good things, but I've also heard plenty of horror stories (mostly about incredibly long ship times) and the two times I've attempted to order from them I finally gave up and asked them to cancel my order. I think the first time I had waited a month for something they claimed was in stock. The other time I waited about 5 weeks on something that was 7-21 days ship time (but not listed as in stock). The price was nice...but it was like saving maybe $8 on a $100+ item that I was just tired of waiting for.

I checked some but not all these web sites out and only found AR type barrels. Brownells did have available replacements for Ruger precision rifles. I didn't look at Sinclair.
I would have thought that Creedmoor would have stocked barrels for vintage rifles but I didn't see them unless I didn't look well enough.
Other barrels are identified on their site as available only through specific vendors in the US, NZ and AUS some of them where I already purchased more than one type of barrel in the past. Warpath Vintage is not one of them any longer as far as I can see, one early p14 barrel I bought at Butner when they first came out. The only one I ever had a problem with and it was very minor, glad I kept it in retrospect.

Yeah, your best bet might be contact Criterion and ask them who carries the barrel you are looking for. CMP sells 1903, Garand and I think Carbine Criterion barrels. Not sure they sell 1917 barrels from them.

I've ordered thousands of $ from optics planet and have had no issues. Processing and ship times can take a little though. I ordered a DEZ arms HBAR barrel and my gunsmith said the fit and finish was better than most he's seen.

Prob just unluck of the draw for that criterion barrel.
