I have a couple times bought brass from members on here really just to stock up. One time for $25 dollars I got a 50# bag of pistol caliber brass. A couple days of sorting and end up with a useful stock pile and had a bunch of brass to trade off for stuff I had no intention of loading.

I rarely buy brass now. I pick up brass whenever I can. But if I'm desperately low, I buy brass from a local guy because I have a specific competition load that costs a lot more than my reloads. The one time I bought competition ammunition from a well known company made for 2011s, I got a 20% failure to fire on them. And their low velocity rounds I ran over a cronograph showed a 1000 fps for 147gr load that was supposed to be 900 fps.

Having to buy brass really skews the economics of reloading.

Yes.. the first time you have to buy brass. I reload several calibers and the ones that i have to replace the most are the throat burner ones.. like a 22-250. split necks here and blown out primer pockets after a few reloads but even still.. Its stupid cheep to do reloading over factory rounds. Especially if you get SPECIAL ammo made for your rifle not just "any" rifle of that caliber.

    $2.00 a shot
$0.80 a shot buying new brass every time
    $0.48 using same brass.

Even if i only get 2 reloads.. its worth it. But.. Beyond that and it starts to add up quick.

That being said, you wont spend less.. you'll just shoot more for the same price.

Only 50 BMG or some others if needed. Picked up some new Winchester
45 Win Mag cheap, 222, 44 Spl... If the price is right on 1x common brass
    then yes, by the pound..
