Little late on this one as well. But here’s what I’ve seen after 2 years in Jefferson county.
My helper(I do commercial hvac) is 18 and fresh out of HS. He’s been in Jefferson county his entire life. He’s a smart kid, and has great things to say about his education and upbringing. His sister is also doing well and looks like she’ll have a full ride scholarship coming her way. Granted, they’re from a great family. That being said, he’s told stories of kids who are not well disciplined and are troublemakers, but what school doesn’t have them.
He speaks highly of his teachers and the staff. I know there is a bad stigma around WV, and parts of it have earned it. I’ve heard of the past issues the administrations have had, but it seems that it’s working it’s way out. Jefferson county is experiencing a large influx of Md and Va moving in, brining their tax dollars with them, and it seems to show in the school.
I don’t have kids in school yet, but from what I’ve seen, I’m not concerned.
