So i see that The State has expanded trails in Western Maryland.

A few questions (assume machine == 2 wheels):
    • Are the trails sufficient to warrant a 3 hour drive, one way?
    • Can reservations be made days in advance?
    • Must you pickup reservation materials in person?
    • Are you required to supply your SSN for reservation?
    • Are machines with on road registration prohibited?
    • Do machines with on road registration still require a county permit for between trail heads?

Looking at the maps, it could be interesting enough.

Pictures I see are all two track; Any single track up there...?

I've ridden there. In fact, I was part of the group that got DNR to build trails. There are three sections. North Hill area is my favorite.

I had some guys with me who helped build trails there and raced there when it was privately owned. They thought it was great and better that when they used to go there decades ago.

No singe track now but we expect there to be some in the future. If you have a registered bike, you do not need the county permit. I think the link provides the rest of the answers. The park staff are friendly so give a call if needed.

Without knowing more about your riding style and likes, I can't say whether or not you should go. Best way to find out is go and try it out.

Ran into that prior to posting; It used to be that DNR ramrodded everything through COMPASS, which demanded your SSN.

They have no need for that information, it’s the primary reason we sold the JetSkis.

Also, knowing what’s there from someone who has ridden it is way better than brochure.

    This is a bit telling:

When visiting, please stay on designated trails. Sticking to the designated trails is important as park staff work hard to add additional sustainable trails. Recently park staff have had to reclaim and close “rogue” visitor-created trails. Rogue trails are often non-sustainable and can cause long term harm to the area. Maintenance and closure of rogue trails draws resources away from the development of new trails. Please talk with the park staff if you have ideas, issues, or concerns regarding trails.

Trail riding always as a certain erosion aspect. If the trails offered are sufficient, I doubt folk would need to make new trails.

Also the reservation system, if cannot be completed remotely, could be an issue.

I’m not interested in driving 3 hours only to discover the reservations for today has been filled.

Solid class B rider; I ride FRO the most often these days.

In fact I’ll be there Saturday :party29:

I've ridden out there for years. The trails had gotten really bad, especially the hilly ones. I'm not sure what improvements they've made on the worst trails yet. My best friend runs the private camp up there and is there just about every weekend through the year.

Is there still a camp? I thought that was closed, due to the sale of the property.

I'm planning to get out there once I complete my rear suspension rebuild project.

    Bearings out and bores cleaned.

I should start pressing in the new ones tomorrow.

Perhaps we can get a MDS group together...?
