    Came up in a video game I was playing a while ago, was always curious but never got around to googling it. Interesting stuff, I’m gonna see if I can talk the mrs. into trying out making some

    This was done on the plains and they had elk and buffalo. I wonder if their fats are different. I render deer fat for lube, but I am going to have to be starving to eat it.

    I’d be careful about adding sugar. Sugar changes the downstream equation that describes shelf life/duration.

    If I was determined to sweeten it, I’d consider honey or honey crystals. The blueberries or cranberries should be sufficient.

    I might also consider some high quality powdered ginger or cinnamon IF I WAS DETERMINED to add flavor or health benefit.

    Very interesting. I had never heard of pemmican. Looks like it has a longer shelf life than MREs at room temperature or higher.

    For best results you should use suet. That type of fat hold up better. It's pretty hard to find in the US unless you butcher your own meat.
