Make sure if he is shooting it to clean properly. That Turkish ammo is SUPER corrosive. A few rounds without cleaning, and the bore will turn into a sewer pipe in a couple days.

    Gotcha
Thanks for all your help. The rifle is packed with cosmoline.I doubt that he will clean it out just to shoot it.

Tell your friend to clean the cosmoline out of that rifle and shoot it!

Here's a pic of one of my K98k rifles. (byf 43)
The stock was BLACK when I got it. The BLACK was oil and grease in the wood.
A paste, made with denatured alcohol and "Whiting" (from Brownell's) applied several times, removed the vast majority of the grease after disassembly and initial cleaning with Formula 409.
The wrist of the stock was embedded with grease and oil.

I spent many hours cleaning the stock, but, it was well worth it.
(And no, this rifle is not for sale!)

There was cosmoline on/in EVERY surface of this rifle. A 4" PVC pipe w/ glued cap on one end, and a removable cap on the other, was used w/ mineral spirits and lots of 'elbow grease' and many shop rags were used.
A final 'shower' with BrakLeen removed the gunk from the rifle.
