Since I got back into shooting and started collecting, I've wanted a Luger. I finally found one I liked and could afford. It's a 1916 military version in what I would consider very good condition considering it is 97 years old!

Is that the model with wood in the mag? The bottom grip or something? My friend has one and say's he can't find any decent mags.

A very nice looking pistol indeed.

Yup. Bottom of mag is wood.. I've heard that some after-market mags can be problematic. I'm going to see if I can find a Mec-Gar mag and use it instead of the wood bottom one when I take it out to shoot.

Luger mags are a pain. I have been using me gars but they are scarce.

I had to backorder mine from midway and wait 6 months then they cut my order for 4down to two.

I was lucky my 30 luger can with two wood bottoms and my P08 with two matching aluminum bottom mags

Welcome to the club! Personally never had a positive experience with after market Luger mags. But I will say that I've never used Mecgars so it's nice to hear positive reviews.
All the issues with after market mags centers around flimsy metal. The steep grip angle requires an equally stiff follower spring which puts a lot of stress on the mag feed lips. Those with thin, flimsy feed lips has them opening up under pressure, changing the feed angle and causing failures to feed.
My old shooter grade Luger in 9 x 19 is very sensitive to ammo. Needs stout loads with the proper cartridge OAL. Too short and it will jam every time. Took lots of experimenting to get the right load. But now it's a happy camper and a joy at the range. Everyone should experience pulling trigger on a Luger at least once in their life. Ditto for the Mauser Broomhandle. Both are just lots of fun.

When you go to the range to try it out bring several different bullet weights. The one I shoot likes 124g ammo. It consistently stovepipes with 115g.

Now that's just a handsome pistol. Not fortunate enough to have one yet but it's on my shopping list.

    Great find
