(not the Precision Rifle) If you do, do you like it? Would you buy it again?

    TIA

I have shot one, and it has been on my wishlist for a while as a bolt-action addition to my rimfire guns:

    • Takes the 10/22 mags
    • compatible with aftermarket upgrades/accessories
    • Good, but not amazing action

Those also describe the Precision Rimfire, but those are tougher to come by. To me, it comes down to if I want the chassis look or a more standard looking stock. I would snatch up whichever I found first.

The only thing the Precision Rimfire has as a big con to me is weight. I am looking for a light weight suppressor ready .22 and that ruled out the RPR. They are available on Gun Broker though.

I've got one and it's the platform I use for suppressed shooting (varmint), so as not to unnecessarily alarm a couple of jittery neighbors. It's a good shooter and once I got the scope zeroed, it's very reliable out to about 75 yards. For me it was a good investment.

I plan on getting a supressor for my American 8334. Its the only 22 that I have that has a threaded barrel. Camerons in Oxford PA had that rifle the last time I was in there.I dont own a supressor yet so it will be my first.

The 8334 seems to be the most available now, it must be the green stock that keeps the sales down. I am hoping to find a 8351 with the black stock and stainless barrel but they go as fast as they are put up. :sad20:

    What is light enough?
Savage also has the same sort thing. I bet the savage (in both mag configs) might be easier to find.

My Savage B22 with the threaded target barrel is wicked accurate with good ammo, and seems to get more accurate suppressed with the stabilizing weight on the end there.

I really like mine. It's capable of <1" groups at 50 yds. I have the compact SS version. Great trigger too.

What is light enough? I thought Ruger had a shorter 16" Target barrel threaded with synthetic stock?
Savage also has the same sort thing.

Savage is out as the standard model uses single stack mags and the B22 is as heavy as the Ruger.

The standard and compact American Rimfire with threaded barrels are 18 inches. There are also 16 inch versions but they have heavy 16 inch barrels and only come with wood stocks. The standard and compact plastic stocks weight around five pounds. The wood stock models and Precision Rifles are around seven pounds.

This is all without optics BTW. The dead air mask adds another 6.6 ounces. Since I want this for a walking around rifle, I want it as light as possible (without building my own). As I age, I like carrying lighter things.

Our Scout Troop used the Ruger American Rimfire for a recent event. They functioned well even when fed single rounds and seem like a good value for basic .22 bolt action.

I bought one for my son a few years back. I forget what scope I put on it for him but he was making 30 yd headshots on squirrels with regular bulk box ammo.

I hear ya with wanting the lighter weight. I do wish they were compatible with the Magpul Hunter stocks, but I would settle for the black composite Ruger stocks (like that 8351).

Is this a range toy? yard plinking? or walking around the woods plinking hunting?

I have pretty large selection of ruger 22 rifles. The 10/22 mag compatibility was big for me in a bolt action rifle too but for walking around in the woods I find anything other than a flush mag to be annoying. And if you are using flush mags wtf is the point of 10/22 mag compatibility.

The actions on my 3 Americans (22lr 300blk and 450 bushmaster) all leave a little to be desired smoothness wise, but they do work. Maybe I am being too picky or they just need to be broken in more.

What I really want is for henry/marlin(ruglin?)/winchester to make a factory threaded tube mag plastic stock tacticool style lever action. The Rossi Rio Bravo is close but no threads and it is not worth the $$$ to get one threaded to me.

I got the compact model and added a set of Tech-sights for my daughters first gun. My wife, who is very petite, can use it with the short stock. Best practical rimfire bolt gun on market IMO. Only thing I would do different is get the threaded version (wasn't available when I bought it).

Like the Henry X Models? Factory threaded, tube fed, black composite stock, now side gate loading too, with 1913 rails on top.
