I think this will be a good discussion topic given Maryland residents are restricted to 10 round magazine limits. I've often read on internet forums, etc that if one was to be limited by magazine limits due to law restraints that they would change their firearm preference, ie switching from 9mm to 45acp. Their thought process if they're going to be forced to carry fewer rounds, that they'd rather carry the larger/bigger round that naturally has less/fewer rounds.

What do you Maryland residents say? From what I've seen here, that doesn't seem to be the case, ie you still choose 9mm platforms even with their limited capacity, true? May I ask why? Instead of say carry a 45 acp?

Moving from Indiana where we didn't have magazine size limits, the above argument made some sense.

Thanks for the feed back and discussion!

No impact. If the weapon I want is available with a better magazine, I'll buy the magazine out of state. I do figure that into purchase price.

We're not limited on the mags we can have and use. Just can't buy, sell, receive them in state is all. You can bring all the normal cap mags you want when you move here or got to VA, W VA, PA or DE and buy mags

Practice dropping a mag and inserting a new mag a lot. When you feel like you have it down, begin timing yourself. Once you get your time around the .5 to 1 second mark, add it to your shooting drills at the range. You will quickly understand how unimportant round limitations are when you are proficient with your chosen semi-auto pistol. Legislators who insist on magazine limits don't care that criminals don't care about magazine limits. Possessing magazines with capacities greater than 10 rounds is mot illegal in Maryland. It is only criminal to buy, sell, or otherwise distribute magazines with greater than 10 rounds in Maryland. So practically, the law means nothing unless you are an honest citizen who obeys the dictates of the legislators in Annapolis.

    Be safe.

I carry a Glock 43 with 7+1 because smaller is better in my opinion for CCW. I could carry my Glock 20 or 21 with a 30 round back up mag but I feel safe enough with 8-16 rounds of 9mm on me.

I just need more weapons. My 50 cal with 5 rounds is viable when my Glock with 17 rounds is not.
Oh, well I will shoot you with the legally viable 50 cal. Have a nice day. :)

I’ve heard a few old people or new shooters make that argument in ban states or describing what they did in the AWB era, but they were neither people who carry a gun nor do they care how quickly they can put rounds on target accurately.

A .45 usually means a larger and less concealable handgun, more weight on the belt, and slower splits when compared to a 9mm.

Modern 9mm hollow points do quite well these days, so people tend to stick to them even if there’s a mag capacity limit.

    No change at all.

Buy your standard capacity magazines out of state. Perfectly legal to do so. While you're at it, buy some other things out of state as well when practical. I like to offer at least small token rewards to states that treat us like citizens.

No because there are no mag size limits. Yep, im in Maryland and yep i have and use standard capacity mags in my ARs and handguns.. i even have a few large capacity mags for fun..

Because it's not illegal to own them and it's not illegal to buy them in non commie states and bring them back. So I fail to understand why anyone would setlle for or comply with a 10 round limit.

I do own a few 10 round mags for use at the range so I can bench rest..

Oh man, that avatar, I knew she reminded me of someone. Now I don't have to keep circling back to figure it out.

As to the thread topic, as long as I'm still able to acquire standard cap magazines, it's not a factor in my decisions.

Thanks for feedback guys. Yeah, Maryland has some weird loop holes where your legally able to own them, even go out of state and buy them and bring them back in. Think some politician purposely left that hole in that law as I can't imagine them being that stupid! I guess I could be wrong on them being stupid. Although the seem to be getting smarter and a lot bolder!

Unfortunately, I'm still learning of the gun shops in my area (Gaithersburg area) and not familiar with what gun shops are across the state lines.

I’ve never used mag capacity as a consideration for cartridge or pistol choice. It could be a deciding factor between two pistols I am choosing between. Then it could make a difference. I look at what the pistol and cartridge need to do. Then I rely on practice and drills to build proficiency.

With recent social unrest and most likely more mobbing when the socialists put it in high gear, the requirements may change. Then again, maybe not....my response pistol has 7 and 8 round mags. The carbine...more.

Well there is no restriction on magazine possession in the state only the transfer. If there was a ban on possession, yes I'm sure a lot of people would change what they owned. No reason for me to own a Glock 19 or Glock 17 when a Glock 48 is superior (to me) in every way except capacity. (Well, and I'd like a rail for a light.)

    But yes.

AliasNeo07, Hmm.....yes perhaps I should have phrase if there was a ban on possession of magazine larger ten rounds would change one's mind. Might have changed some answers.
