I was curious because I have never heard of that mall. I googled it. Turned out that mall was closed and demolished in 2006-2007. Prince George Mall is still open. I don't even go there at all. Driving by was all I did because I had to use East-West highway one time.

Sears was left standing when they demolished Landover and remained open a few more years. Heard they set records there in their company for theft losses.

It was explained to me that entering a private business with a firearm, and knowing that there is a sign indicating NGA, that you are in effect trespassing immediately. However, from a practical POV, no one can prove you saw the sign, so the most that can (legally) happen is them telling you to leave.

Saw this recently and sent an email to the mall asking if people with permits are allowed to carry while at the mall. Here is the reply I got.

Thank you for contacting us ahead of time in regards to your question!

Regardless of what state the permit is from, NO weapons are allowed at the Columbia Mall premises.

We sincerely appreciate you being a responsible gun owner and that you checked with us before your trip the our mall!

    Have a wonderful day!

I then replied that I, as a responsible gun owner, am not the one the mall needs to be concerned about.

    Never liked that place anyway.

Did you really expect different? Your email falls on deaf ears regardless. In Maryland it's expected so I don't even bother to ask.

The pandemic put paid to all these malls when a bunch of retail jobs went bye-bye forever. The question now is which ones don't go out of business.

It all matters if the signage has force of law.

Now if they see it and ask you to leave and you tell them to stuff it that's another story

Shoplifting was the major factor in the closing of Landover Mall. Sears was the last to close.

Go shoot your gun, rub the muzzle on your pants, maybe run a patch through it and do the same and then go looking for the dog. If he alerts and they 1, through you out, 2, have you searched or 3, have you arrested, thank God because you have hit lawsuit lottery.

I was thinking of doing something like this to see what happens. I’ve been inside the mall a number of times doing construction projects but I have not been inside as a customer in probably 5+ years.

Before they started calling everything except normal weekends in Chicago "mass shootings" the great majority of mass shootings took place in areas where firearms were forbidden. AKA victim venues. Sprinkle some nitrogen-based fertilizer about the mall entrances so KJ can have a good time.

Where is Gecko45 when you want your mall to be "5 By 5"?

Just watch out for gangbangers hanging around the Orange Julius at the food court

If you have a CCW permit here in MD, does the law require you to obey signs posted by businesses?

I always figured I would just do the same and just keep it concealed or have been looking at my phone and not seen the signs with 'too little' print size or whatever.

No, the signs do not have the force of law like in other states, actually one of the few good things about carrying here in the People's Republic. But, as others have said, if they do see it and ask you to leave you must or they can trespass you.

I think if mall security noticed you were armed they could ask you to leave and if you refused they could call the police on you for trespassing. If it's properly concealed nobody would ever know unless you were forced to use it. In that case, who cares about some stupid sign.

This is the answer right here. You will not be in any trouble until they ask you to leave and you refuse. They might even send you a letter telling you that you are no longer allowed to come back.

When we were in West Frienship, we went to Columbia Mall for the Merry Go Round. Then, a couple times for movies in the theater outside. My son attended a birthday party there at the bowling/pool place. Rarely, if ever, go out shopping anymore.

I can’t speak to the law in that respect. If discovered that can of course tell you to leave and that you are trespassing. You’d then be committing criminal trespass if you refused. Same if you returned later if they told you not to.

I understand the negative sentiment in general on bans on concealed weapons in places. On the other hand, are private property rights now also not reasonable? Does a person or company not have a right to use their property as they see fit if it is within the law (and to be clear it is within the law in almost all states to ban a whole variety of behaviors or even just because we don’t like you so get out. So long as it isn’t tied to a protected class, you can).

Or do we only care about us, not about other people’s rights?

I don’t want to wear shoes. I guess I’ll just have to choose to go to a grocery store that doesn’t care if I am bare foot.

If is open to the public the Constitution prevails. It is obvious laws and cardboard signs do not stop crime.

On the other-hand I would not carry into a persons private house w/o verifying. Hell, I would not be there if I felt at risk.

The reason people carry? All these mass incidents happen in *public* areas, meaning laws and signs dont work for the immoral. BUT wait it gets worse. The immoral are celebrated heroes in today's society.

Guns aren't flying off the shelf in support of Big Government solutions. Hell, often they kneel with the drug dealers, murders, looters, arsonists.

Self defense is a God given right. Government can only try to take God given rights, which is why they hate churches and freedom.

Could be fun to go walk around the mall and dump a few handfuls of spent primers in random places. Wonder what their actual policy/ procedures are? figure it's private security, so worst case dog barks, Gecko45 asks if you have a firearm, you say no, he probably ignores it, worst case he asks you to leave. Pretty much it. Can't make you hand over ID or anything, worst case he can call actual police and you can show your permit to them. Wonder how accurate the dog will be?, usually alert off of GSR, and would have to be a high threshold so it doesn't alert to everyone that fired a gun within a couple days. They are usually expensive mostly to keep ongoing training for the dog and handler. More than likely it's just going to be a glorified service dog that kids are going to want to pet if they actually have on at all.

The power move is to go dump some 9mm brass in random corners of the mall. THAT will get even a human's attention. :)
