Just picked this up from Maryland's seven-day jail today...Colt New Frontier, .44-40 with a .44 Special cylinder. I got it from the estate listed a couple of weeks ago. The box is rough to say the least but the revolver is pristine...maybe never fired.

Sheesh! All this American elegance, with engraving, nice finishes and fancy grips.

I feel compelled to balance things out with some foreign clunkiness painted so heavily it fills in some of the stamps:

Just landed one of these and got it out of its seven-day jail sentence...a new 2021 Colt Anaconda. I checked the trigger pulls...8.1 lbs double-action and 6 lbs single-action. The single-action is a bit heavy but maybe some use will help that...and it is smooth. My only gripes are that I didn't like the Hogue finger-groove grips as they simply didn't fit my hand so I put this set of Colt/Pachmayr Presentation grips I had on the revolver. The other gripe is the grooved trigger...I prefer smooth but ya gotta take what ya can get.

Now I have a total of six Anacondas...three .44 Magnum and three .45 Colt.

Now...when Colt comes out with a 4.25" barreled version I'll have to find one of those as well. And...I have it on good authority from inside Colt there may be a version in .454 Casull in the future. I can only hope!

The Anaconda in 454 Casull would be the cat’s meow.

    Very very nice.

I really want both a Python and an Anaconda, but right now the prices for them are prohibitive. I can't seem to find one that isn't well above MSRP - we're talking $600-$800 above MSRP. At those prices, no thanks.

You can find them at MSRP or somewhat below. It takes some searching and patience. Get on sites like Duke's Sports Shop and a few others and get on their notification list for when they receive some...and once you get the notification hit "buy" immediately. Duke's recently had nearly one hundred new Pythons for MSRP and they took several days to sell out.

I don't know, for that kind of money I might be more interested in a Winchester Model 70 Super Grade, or maybe another used Weatherby MK V ;)

    27 no dash

Here's one you don't see every day. A 1958 S&W model 27 no dash revolver. 6 1/2" barrel. Stocks are of later vintage, but will be replaced with a correct set.

Here's another one you don't see every day - a 1956 pre-29, no model number. This one has been ridden pretty hard since my Dad bought it brand new in 1956. As a small-town police officer, it was on his hip at various points, and he loved putting it through its paces with heavy loads. These days it gets somewhat milder loadings than the full-house loads with 2400 - I load a bit lighter (but still potent) with a 240 gr flat point cast over about 9 gr Unique. I recently acquire some Universal, and that's supposed to also be a good powder with 44 mag, and I'm looking forward to trying it.

I'm getting ready to send this off to have it re-blued, (I've already done my research and I know where I'm going to send it) and once I get it back I'll put a nice set of reproduction "Cokes" on it. I'm not going to skimp - the ones I'm looking at now are going to be rosewood and at least $200.

Yes - I'm aware that having work on this gun will decrease the collector value. This is a family gun that I never intend to sell, and I don't much care about collector value after I'm dead - that's someone else's problem to deal with. :lol2:

See to me the wear makes it look good
If I'm being honest, I'm kind of on the fence about it. Part of me likes the fact that it was 40 years worth of wear and tear that Dad put on it, and that makes me want to leave it. Part of me thinks that Dad would love to see that old gun restored to its original luster. I'm leaning toward the latter. Dad isn't around anymore - he hasn't been around for the better part of 25 years at this point - so I'm not sure how much weight sentimentality should have.

Another solution, albeit a fairly expensive one, would be to get another one - preferably no younger than early 1980s.

Back when Bay Country Guns was still open, they had a white metal alloy 44 magnum in the case on consignment. I really wanted it, but the missus dissuaded me. I've kicked myself ever since.

No way I would have that Smith re-blued. It’s got character! Looks like it’s been in and out of a holster a few times!
