I have a feeling that this case will be one of the most historic and important cases in the history of this great Nation. Yes it has gone to hell in a handbasket right now but at least we have the freedom to vote and chose who we want in the US Congress, a lot of people in this world do not have that choice to make but it is forced upon them instead. We might never know what the long term effects are when SCOTUS gives its ruling..

Sorry to be a negative belly but nothing will be done.

It will either be a wishy washy ruling or if it is clear as a bell the legislature will TPM and traning requirement us to death.

It will be more court cases for sure. Once carry outside the home is established as a Right, it will be difficult to be too obstructionist in the long term.

As long as there are activist judges who ignore the Constitution in favor of using their position for social engineering there will always be dangers and threats to our rights to combat. As in all court decisions the devil is in the details...rarely is there a unequivocal, emphatic decision that doesn't include weasel words to allow the Left to throw sand in the gears of justice and liberty.

It certainly will be interesting. Clement never really answered the revised question directly. The primary argument presented was really about carry outside the home, which was the question Clement originally proposed. SCOTUS changed the question to address CONCEALED CARRY specifically. Clement side steps the question like he did in Peruta and never addresses the historical prohibition directly. He lost Peruta because of it. While I don't think it will cause a loss in this case, it may muddy the issue.

I wonder if 2CA ruled the way it did because they did not want to be the ones to strike down NY Law about needing a government permission to carry so they ruled the way they did in order to let SCOTUS take the case and let the chips fall where they may.. I think if they did rule against NY state they might get death threats plus they would lose some of their political pull as well with Como and company...

Death threats from people who don't believe in private possession of weapons somehow doesn't sound very...threatening. Especially to conservative jurists who do.

No, not really. They will just say that a state can't deny a permit based on wanting one for self-defense. The states that use that to deny carry, the main purpose of its use, will just come up with a new angle for denial. Such as, charging more for a permit and requiring carry insurance. Until we see an arrest for open carry without a permit, this chit will continue with little affect on the right throughout the nation.

Any news / reasonable speculation on date of Corlett orals?

    Thanks.

When a second extension on the merits brief was requested, the request indicated that the extension would move oral arguments to November. SCOTUS will likely finalize the November argument schedule by the mid-end August.

There will be resolution by July 2022, the Court concludes all business before going on summer recess.

It will probably be one of the last decisions released because of the gravity of it…just like Heller.

I hope the decision comes in time for the pre-election peaceful demonstrations.

Interesting, a 2A endorsement from NY public defenders.

A coalition of New York public-defender groups filed an amicus brief Thursday urging the Supreme Court to invalidate the state’s concealed-carry ban. Among the attorney offices and legal-aid groups who signed the plea were the Black Attorneys of Legal Aid, the Bronx Defenders, and Brooklyn Defender Services.

Maybe the rising New York crime rate and its effect on the recent mayoral election was writing on the wall that these attorneys saw and decided to be on the right side of history.
