-For every pistol a holster, every rifle a sling. Two maxims I live by. To me a pistol isn't complete until it's in a rig. So I'm always on the lookout for a nice holster. Recently there was an online auction with 3 holster lots that got my attention.
-The big ticket item was a crazy rare canvas holster for a Beretta Model 1923. This was just the 2nd example I've ever seen anywhere. So come hell or high water it was going to chez Mawkie.
-The next lot had two Beretta holsters. One was a very nice leather holster for a Model 1917, also rare. The other I believe is a post war holster for a 1951. That one I've yet to confirm. After spending 20 minutes staring at every post war Italian holster I could find I still hadn't found another like this one, which is in NIB condition. But my Model 1951 fit just fine so for now I'll go with that.
-The last lot was labelled "Unknown European Holster". I couldn't ID it pre-auction but it bore a strong resemblance to Spanish holsters for Campo-Giros and 1921s. I put a Model 1921 into it, not having a Campo-Giro, and it fit snugly.

I've never owned or handled a Campo-Giro, but that does look the right shape for one :)
Check p.148 of Antaris' "Astra Firearms" book (the new one).
That holster looks the same, and has metal loops on the back for the straps.

Will a 1911 fit in the "1951" holster?

-Bingo! Shame on me for not thinking to pull Antaris from the library. At least my initial guess was spot on (insert blind squirrel and nut analogy).
-Will have to see if a 1911 fits. Again, didn't occur to me that post war Italy was awash in US handout firearms and that the 1911 would be amongst them.
