Hey guys, I know someone can help me with this. I am trying to help a buddy with a Magnum Research IMI 308 Galil, that is failing to fire on some rounds. He said it looks like "light primer strikes" on some rounds that do not fire. I have not seen the gun or any of the ammo.

In doing a little research, I found in the 80s there was a recall for a non spring loaded firing pins, and that can cause slam fires. Ill know more about the gun when I get my hands on it, but I don't know anything about this platform. If anyone can tell me what they think, or where I can get parts, I'd love to learn anything I can, thanks!

Weak trigger springs possibly or certain brands of ammo could have hard primers. But a strong trigger spring should fire hard primers. And non spring loaded firing pins are on most if not all SKS rifles. As long as the channel where the firing pin sits is clean and the pin isnt sticking, you shouldn't have slam fires. I haven't had a slam fire issue with my Yugo SKS

I have one but only in 5,56 mm. Take the bolt out and press where the hammer strikes. If it's spring loaded there will be noticeable pressure to move.
I do this while looking at the bolt face just to see the firing pin push out.

Probably a trigger spring issue. IIRC, the 5.56 standard trigger control parts work fine in the 7.62 version.
