Looks to be a K98 action chambered in .22? Neat

There's a reason for this: it's based on the German KKW training rifle. When the war ended and the Mauser factory ended up in the French zone they were asked by the French gov't to design and produce a .22 training rifle for them. Early examples will have Mauser markings as KKW components were used. Later when the Russians b*tched about the French breaking agreements to not use ex-Nazi labor and facilities for arms production fabrication shifted to MAS at St Etienne.
I've got two MAS45s and love them. IMHO, second only to the Springfield M1922 in accuracy. Best bang for the buck in the .22 trainer world.

Contrats on finding a hidden gem in the .22 training world. The MAS 45 takes the awesome KKW design to another level. I see yours has the front sight hood removed. I did the same for my range rifle as it doesn't allow enough light through for my 60 yr old eyes. You're gonna have a beeeg smile come range day.

Most exported to the US came from French arsenals where they had been placed in storage after re-furbishing. So most I've seen are in pristine condition.

Nice piece. I have a 303 Brit .22 trainer, has all the correct markings, even the queens authorization stamp. It will print a pattern on paper very close to my tricked out Ruger race rifles and it is a pleasure to shoot.

This one is not pristine, however it looks like folks are trying to get a mint on GunBroker and I paid nowhere close to this one.

Noticed that your's has a bit of edge wear, def. not one of the re-worked examples. My guess is that yours was deemed in good enough condition to not warrant a re-work. Very much out of the ordinary.
The last time I watched a MAS 45 sell at auction it hammered for $450 plus the vig. These come up regularly so they aren't hard to find, unlike a German KKW. And typically sell for less than half of what a KKW brings.

Yeah the current Selling price on GB is 450-1200 depending on cond and accessories. I got mine for a little under the low number. Its in pretty good shape but some of the ones on Gb look like they are brand new. Like this one for example. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/778393347 or they look like they reparked like this one.. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/777850669

Interesting with the seller of the first listing. Seems he bought a crate of these in-the-wrap and is selling them off. Last pair fetched $1800 together. Yikes, $900 each is impressive. I know of two unwrapped coming up for auction soon, curious to see what they bring. If the second seller you listed does well (and he probably will, he's GBs new Grey Blanket) then I'd expect they'll sell high. Thinking the days of cheap MAS 45s might be coming to an end.
For a shooter you did well. I've seen some slip in under the radar at backwater auctions but for the most part your $450-1200 range looks to be accurate.
