This thread is for unusual items that could be useful to preppers. Not the same stuff that is common on prepper sites or in survival books with a new name or brand. Things that you haven't seen before, and if you are new to prepping wait until you thoroughly reviewed at least a dozen sites before you post because it may be new to you but everyone else already knows about it.

To kick it off how about do it yourself electricity generation. This company offers two modes of operation:

    First is gravity powered.

    Available on Amazon.

    The second is people powered.

Here is the Company home page (a little difficult to navigate to the various products).

There used to be clocks with little birds that were powered in a very similar fashion.

I would love to own a little property with a stream that had a 15 foot drop over the run on my land. Even some of the level water wheels that generate from normal current are pretty impressive.

For those interested in Micro (or Pico) Hydropower this pamphlet from the Canadian Government will give you a good introduction. On page 8 is a chart that shows what head and flow you will need to generate, it shows "Typical Power Output (in Watts) With Various Head and Water-Flow Rates".

Something that might be useful in a prepping situation a "Truck Crane". This would also work with a come along or block and tackle.

You should have some heavy lifting/moving equipment on hand to be prepared.

Most people have forgotten about rigging and block and tackle which for centuries provided the power to move things. They trade distance (how far you pull the rope) for the mechanical advantage (how much you can lift or move).

Would be great to have more experience with this..

Reminds me of pick up trucks under a tree branch being used to pull a motor...
