I have always loved Midway and Larry Potter, but lately since this fiasco this year I am starting to have a hard time trying to settle for their prices. I bought 30-30 dies from them as I got a product notification and just bought them as I trusted Midway. Like I used to trust Cabelas, even though I knew they were high a lot, but Like cabelas Brands I trusted them. I can't anymore after BPS bought them.

So anyways, I did am impluse buy on the 30-30 dies as they were in and they had the M die too, so I ordered them. As I started looking for 30.06 dies I started noticing prices and that Midway was significantly higher than everyone. I was looking at the Lee Ultimate dies and below is a comparison. I see this with everything on their site any more, Dies, powder, and tools.

All 30% higher than other stores now. $65.99/50.49 = 1.30 difference in price. So Obviously Mid south is making a profit and so is Natchez and Titan at a lower price point. Midway is making a profit at the same cost and selling for 30% higher than the other stores.

    Mid-south $74.33 https://www.midsouthshooterssupply....llet-mould-number-311041-30-caliber-173-grain

I think I am adding Larry and company to the gougers I will not do business with any further.

Thank the gougers and scalpers for the price increase. Midway is not the only online merchant doing that. If I were an online merchant I would raise the prices to what the scalpers are getting also. As a merchant why should I sell at regular retail, watch the scalpers sell it for 3-7 times the value...and not pay taxes, overhead, insurance...etc..

As far as scalpers, I don't even bother with Gun Broker or Ebay for gun stuff any more. It is a futile experience of looking at things you just will not buy.

What other platform do they have? I am talking about legitimate stores with a customer base that they are endanger of loosing, such as myself.

Here is the thing. They are all out of stock. So the price is meaningless. I’ve noticed with a lot of things a company, mid south, Titan, Midway too don’t update their price until they are in stock again.

Best guess, Midway was in stock the most recently.

Everyone I’ve seen upping prices on reloading equipment the last 3-5 months. Especially a lot recently. Not sure if it is to cut in to scalpers or because the suppliers are upping prices. I’d guess a bit of both.

MOST suppliers of most things in short supply have been increasing their prices when they can. Supply and demand. Odds are good some of their material costs may have gone up due to demand. Probably
Hiring on some people even if they aren’t buying more machines or shop space. Probably want to grab a little extra profit margin to pay off any investments they are making sooner.

I noticed their price increases as well. I consider myself a loyal customer and have purchased from them for decades. I understand prices have gone up, but I see bass pro/cabelas and brownells prices much lower. Midway used to be my #1 go to, but now I’m going to stop shopping there unless they’re the only ones who carry what I’m looking for. I know, that’s how capitalism works, but it goes both ways.
Remember Cheaper Than Dirt? I used to shop there very frequently until 2008. Since then, I haven’t bought anything

All of these places you are comparing prices to are out of stock and no back order. How do you know they won't be the same or more than Midway when they come back in stock?

I see it as a price adjustment due to supply and demand. I"m hoping its temporary of course. People are buying it form the retailers who are buying from the manufacturers. Then selling them on ebay for way more. We need everyone in business but when the vendors who are jacking up the prices and the distributors/ retailers are not increasing prices, the profits are imbalanced in my opinion. If dark days are ahead the dealers and manufacturers need to increase the prices. Hopefully they will go back down. I"d rather prices go up and things be in stock than all the ebayers selling stuff. $25 lee molds selling for $50-$70 is jacked up. Let Midway sell them for $45-$50 to individuals. Hopefully, the prices go back down this year.

As I posted above. That’s generally been my experience. Powder valley has been doing that. Mid south seems to be having a harder time getting stock, but a handful of the things I’ve been keeping an eye on with them have had 10-30% price jumps as they came back in stock.

Why would they update their price until
They have it in hand and they know what they paid for it? From a lot of places I’ve been hearing even tier 1 retailers are going “off contract” because a lot of suppliers are refusing to renew contracts once they expire. So it is buying it from the supplier at “today’s price”.

I agree raising the prices by all in the supply chain will stabilize the market and keep merchandise available. Also the different tiers will receive a fair and equitable portion of revenues. The scalpers have tested what is affordable for those capable and willing to pay. Even some of their prices are starting to descend some on some items. Now the marketing end is still adjusting reactively since they were working business as usual at first since there were no other indicators. I was surprised the COVID shutdown caused the run on the industry that it did.

I don’t like the prices soaring but its reality. Cheaper Than Dirt was underhanded and cancelled orders to raise prices. I have had ammo on a few orders since July and August from an internet supplier. They are still honoring the orders at the original purchase price. That will keep me as a customer when the orders are filled and if need be, I will order at new market prices. I guess the big thing for me is don’t panic and watch. Purchase on need to keep shooting and not so much on want.

Nobody wants to buy dies now at $80 a set then see them on sale next year for $30. I get it. But how much costs will be saved OR with component prices being stupid expensive (i.e. primers) just the ability to build unavailable ammunition will be the premium gained.

Plus everytime he sees those dies he will stock up, if and when, things become more normal again.

In the past 6 months I have looked at each vendor listed above for the items Ive needed. Each time midway was the one who had them or got them in stock first. Listed price doesn’t mean a thing if they don’t actually have the item. So far Midway hasn’t had any “cheaper than dirt” level offenses so I’ll still gladly buy from Midway.

    I don't understand how people compare prices that way. Reminds me of the Russian story;

Alexi went into a bakery and ask the price of a loaf of bread. "1000 rubles was the baker's reply". He told the baker that the shop down the street sells bread for 500 rubles. "Why don't you buy THAT bread, said the baker. "He's out of bread."
"Well, when I'm out of bread it's 500 rubles as well."

I think most of the manufacturers are paying a lot of overtime which means that the labor cost on the additional volume increased by 50%.
