Cheap student wants to do the class with a .22

If centerfire is required, I can’t find it in the regs or references.

Sorry, I want students to take the class and do the drills with the pistol they will be carrying.

    Practice the way you perform.

I used a .44 magnum. Up your game, wussy.

I carry it when it’s cold because my jacket hides it.

Concur that would be ideal. But the state requirement for the qual course does not specify centerfire only.

I agree, but just like HQL, if someone only wants to do only that one qualifying shot for HQL, that satisfies the law in COMAR.

I fully subscribe to the "regularly shoot what you're going to carry" school of thought, but let's not confuse the W&C class with being an actual training episode. At best, the shooting part of that process is a way for the examiner to see if you have even a vague baseline of basic gun sense. We all know it when we see it, regardless of the gun being handled. Hopefully most of the people giving these classes are encouraging obvious noobs to go hence and get in some real, extensive coaching and practice with a suitable carry gun. But the test, at the tail end of sitting in a classroom for 16 hours? It really, really doesn't matter. In fact, I think it's good to explicitly make it clear that it is NOT an example of armed self defense training, because the 5 minutes it takes to punch that piece of paper really doesn't lend itself to learning much and shouldn't be mistaken for having been trained. The main purpose of the W&C class, beyond satisfying the MSP's capricious requirements, is to sufficiently alarm you about your sweeping legal jeopardy and civil liability in the state of Maryland. Everything else can and should be learned in a different setting.

I agree. I do not provide any firearms for the MD Wear and Carry class. I expect the students to use the firearm they intend to carry.

Gentlemen, the question was whether or not a centerfire is REQUIRED. It should be a yes or no answer without the need for opinions

Law is easy to find and read, without any opinions included. TD
