Both our state senators are proposing a ban on assault weapons.
Those in the hands of Marylanders will be able to keep them.
The scramble begins and prices to soar.

The usual suspects wrote this...nothing new. They keep this legislation on hand ready to go at any moment...just fill in the blanks. It's not the Democrats we need to keep an eye on...we know they're out to take our rights away. It's the Republicans we need to watch...they're the ones we have to keep from stabbing us in the back out of political expediency.

The world just witnessed a plumber stop a mass murderer by using his own so-called assault weapon and they want to ban them? Surely the good senators aren't dumb enough to think that a ban on so-called assault weapons will stop a bloodthirsty criminal from getting one illegally. Maybe our elected officials can tell us out of the 500+ shot and 300+ murdered in Maryland so far this year
    1) how many were killed with a so-called assault weapon
    2) how many were killed with a gun that was legally purchased by the shooter

I'm sure half the justification has nothing to do with assault weapons and everything to do with forcing Hogan into a veto situation. If they pass one and he does (hopefully) veto it you can bet the dems will beat that drum until election day with the soccer moms, and their fellow travelers in the local media will be quick to mention it in every news story concerning a gun crime. These people care nothing about the citizens of this state and everything about shoving their pseudo-communist ideology down everyone else's throats.

Can't wait to see Feinstein holding one of these up for the press.

While I agree with your assessment, Zoo, I believe that this current AWB bill is at the Federal Level... bringing MD style infringements to the rest of America.

What scramble? Nothing will happen with this, it won't be voted on. AR prices are at an all time low right now.

Btw did anyone catch this gem in the press release? 1 in 5 officers killed in the line of duty with an assault weapon in 2014, or so they say. This has to be complete BS.

I think the question is who proposed it and was it on the federal level or state level?

So What Is an ‘Assault Rifle’ Really? We Look at the Definitions and How the Term Is ‘Demonized’

“Make a promise to yourself that you will stop calling rifles ‘assault weapons.'”

That’s what Glenn Beck said on his morning radio show Thursday as he discussed AR-15s. But why? Is an AR-15 not an assault rifle? Does the “AR” in AR-15 not stand for “assault rifle”?

It doesn’t. In fact, it doesn’t mean “automatic rifle” either, as many might think. AR actually stands for ArmaLite rifle, which is the company that first developed it in the 1950s.

It seems that there is a lot of confusion as to the difference between military rifles and those designed for civilian ownership, especially because of the language often used to describe the latter. The most popular terms to describe the weapons at the center of the recent gun control debate are “military-style” and “assault.” These words have long been used to to describe civilian firearms like the AR-15, but some consider it an inappropriate association that is deliberately being made to “demonize” the guns.

As Beck radio producer Stu Burguiere put it on the show Thursday, “they are targeting these weapons because they think the public is confused enough that they can get away with it — and they are.” ... (cont'd)
