    Saw this guy today before the wind picked up. Black face, belly, and legs. Regular color back and tail.

    From a distance I thought he was some jacked up skunk until he got closer and climbed a tree.

    Like many animals with unusual color schemes, black squirrels are the result of a genetic detour. The black squirrel is actually a gray squirrel with a faulty pigment gene. They can be a solid black in color or combinations of black and gray. That's a fat little rascal. How did it taste?

    I've got squirrels on my property that are gingers. One is almost completely orange (I think it was a fox kit the first time I saw it). About half of them have some amount of orange. Momma or Daddy has been getting around...
