They're cool and earned support by leading the 8 day release fight when msp was holding up gun sales back in the big gun rush.

Well then....I dont plan on going there after this thread

It's a normal strip mall during they day. I've been going there for years and never saw anything of note during the day. Night time may be different.

There is a Jiffy Lube, Subway, and Bojangles in the same area. I think people are making a bit too much about safety in the parking lot.

Would agree with this- it’s as safe as any of the other ranges or shopping centers. Crime is everywhere around Baltimore/ Washington metro area.

I've been to On Target and Cindy's recently. Cindy's is really nice and I won't be going back to On Target anymore.

So the guy that smelled like hot dogs, looked like he needed a shower and tried to dig in your range bag left with the previous owner?

Seems like anyone trying to accost a customer leaving a(ny) shooting range would be taking a chance on not surviving the encounter. Who shoots ALL your ammo when you go?

Whose guns are empty and put away, away from their magazines when you go?

In the days before I became a competition shooter and before I joined my first outdoor shooting club I shot at On Target a lot, like around the early 2000's. Have not been back since. Never had any issues and it was pretty well run in those days. Don't know about now as I have not shot indoor in a decade or more.

Don’t need to confront, they just need to follow you for when you stop at Food Lion, Taco Bell, or wherever else and then break into your car. That has happened to folks. Kind of like how stickers advertising what you’re into on your car advertises what might be in your car.

I’ve been a member there for about 5 years. I like it because it’s close to home and allows members to call in advance so they can get the next available lane when they arrive. They allow pistols and pistol caliber rifles. The maximum target distance is 25 yards and the minimum is 25 feet. They have rental firearms. You can use your own ammunition or buy theirs. No steel allowed. They have a decent selection of firearms and accessories at close to MSRP. The staff is their weak point. Mostly young and inexperienced with a good bit of turnover. Their location is also a drawback from a personal safety perspective. Lots of loitering around seedy looking strip mall stores and fast food restaurants. I limit my visits to daylight hours.

This was my experience as well. I had a membership there for two years but did not go there very often because it is a long way from my house. Once The Machine Gun Nest opened in Frederick, I did not renew my membership at On Target because TMGN is much closer and more convenient for me.

The last time I was there, which was a couple of weeks ago, I rolled in with all of my mags fully loaded - nothing in the guns, and the guns were separated from the mags, but no one said a word to me about it.

If I had to be picky about things at On Target, I'd say first that it's kinda dim in there and the shelves for the lanes are a bit small - it was, IMO, better before they renovated it, but they went with commercially available products for renovation, so you can't really blame that on anything.

Their staff is a bit young and green, but then again, not everyone is an old phardt like me. Overall I have always liked On Target, but now that Cindy's Hot Shots in Glen Burnie is up and running, I'll probably go there - it's a nice range, and it's a lot closer.

In my experience they've never asked to see empty mags, but I've seen them give people grief if they saw loaded mags.

As for the facility and the OP's question...I clicked on the thread wondering if there had been another suicide if that's any indication. I will go there occasionally, but I won't take my family.

The lanes are small and the RO will try and sweep up your brass while you are shooting which is aggravating. I only shoot aluminum case ammo there now.

Take all the sterotypes about average indoor pistol ranges , both good and bad . Crank them all up one notch, and you have On Target .

    This reply is perfect

I was a member years ago before I joined AGC.

Been a few times to browse or look for supplies.

If you want to try it out, try it out. Then you will know if it works for you. I never really enjoyed going there for reasons other have stated but it probably won’t kill you to try it out at least once.

Not sure if they still do this but I never liked that they put sold guns back in the cases for others to fondle during your 7 day wait. In hindsight, I probably could have asked that they not do that but I was new back then...

SWO Daddy: "The lanes are small"

    Could you amplify that a bit...like 3 feet , 4 Feet........maybe inches???

Enough room for a gun box, load/unload space, Brass catcher on a stand, Ammo bag etc...???

    Thanks

That happened to me once, but only once - I kind of yelled at the RO, sort of a "hey - could you not? I police up my brass because I reload." At that point he stopped. The last few times though the ROs have been pretty hands-off about everything.

I think one of the worst things I ever saw in there was one day where a guy was shooting in the next lane with his wife. His 1911 jammed up, and he stepped back, fiddling with it to clear the jam while pointing it directly at his wife's lower back. I was in there with my daughter so I was standing behind monitoring and watching her while she was shooting when I saw what was going on, and I jumped all over his shit. He looked up at me surprised, and i could see the light bulb light up in his head when he realized what he'd been doing.

I had 2-3 times in a row going in there where I got swept by someone in the next lane - guys who had no clue they were even doing it. I stopped going there for a bit after that, but that hasn't happened to me the last several times I've been there.
