    Hi all.
I grew up in WV and ended up retiring from the Navy in San Diego. I currently do Contract work for a PMA out of Pax River and I'm thinking of looking for work there.
    Really tired of CA.

    Thanks guys,
I've been reading up on the gun laws there and compared to Cali WOW! SBR's, AR's with pistol grips, only an 8 day waiting period......MD is looking better all the time

Welcome to Maryland. It's pretty nice down south around Pax River.

I guess compared to Cali, Maryland isn't so bad with gun laws, but it's still too strict.

Maryland ,a Great Place to Relocate ! ...... IF you're coming from New Jersey , Massachusetts, or California ( and a better climate than MA or NJ ). Other than that , Maryland is the place to Flee FROM .

No, not tongue in cheek humor , we're being serious . Also , serious about " California Lite " the MGA (Md General Assy , aka State Legislature ) is very disappointed to be 5 yrs behind Cali , is trying harder to catch up , and has frequent " Hold my Herbal Tea " moments .

Maryland is More Gerrymandered , More Corrupt, and More solidly Democrat than California . Heck CA at least has a state level GOP, Md is the most thoroughly One Party of any State . Where Republican politicians / candidates even exist , 2/3 of time they are either sacrificial Cat Ladies , or trying so hard to appeal to cross over Democrats , that in 46 states , they would be considered a Liberal Democrat themselves .

    *******************

    And of course; Welcome !

West-By-God native here, It's definitely better than Cali (not by a ton, but it's still better) AND it's within driving distance of your birth-state. There are actually quite a few native-born West Virginians on this forum and many folks who still live there or have retired to WV for the lower taxes, better quality of life, and freedoms that it has compared to many other states.

Southern Maryland is definitely more "relaxed" than the more metropolitan areas and the opportunities to hunt and shoot are greater there than say, the capitol region.

Where in WV are you from originally?

Watch where you plan to live in Southern Maryland. Some places are getting more than their share of crime these days. I suggest you "talk" to the So. Maryland crowd on their forum and ask some questions about where to live.

Welcome, if you decide to come. The area surrounded pax is fairly 2A friendly. Like all military bases, the neighborhood just outside the gates is rough. 10-30 minutes away there are great places to live.

Better eat out at all your favorite authentic restaurants before you leave San Diego. This area is quite different in that regard. But we have decent enough weather and tons of water around.

    Welcome to Maryland.
If you bought a house in SD you will love the prices for real estate here!
Down in the Southern part there are lots of free wheeling Mericans.
A good friend lives in California, MD and lots of navy folks around all the time.
    Nice folks.
Met a jar head helicopter pilot who played bag pipes. Go figure. At a scotch tasting non the less. ( well that may not have been a huge surprise - a military person who drinks :D)

I was born in Cali and got out of the Navy at NSA. 41 years later I fled to WV. Unfortunately you can't commute to Pax River from WV. When I was at CIA in the mid-70's I had 2 employee buddies I worked with in Internal Security that commuted to Langley from the Harper's Ferry area every day. I used to joke about it with them but they said as WV rednecks they did not want to live anywhere in between. Now I understand why.
