    Hey everyone, I'm Mike!

This is my obligatory introduction to Maryland Shooters! I've known and heard about this forum for some time now and figured I've put off joining long enough.

Just turned 23 this past September; I'm a huge old gun and history nerd so I've predominantly gravitated towards WWII stuff.

My two possessions I am to be buried with are my 42' dated Springfield M1 Garand and 40' P08 Luger.
I do like modern stuff too - currently crying my self to sleep everynight trying to piecemeal an H&K 416 build together.

I'm certain I have actually met some of you guys as I work Full-time at a local Gunshop in Finksburg; I've been there for 4-ish or so years and have been very fortunate to have learned more about guns by simply talking to people more knowledgeable and experienced than I. Also, I watch a ton of Forgotten Weapons

    I'm primarily interested in two things on here;
-Obviously talking and learning more with cool and knowledgeable people.
-The second being - getting into some form of entry level competition shooting. Maybe something not so serious but still somewhat competitive involving pistol / rifle - something within or not to far from Carroll Co.

Hope to make some friends along the way
    Best regards,
    Mike.

Good morning and welcome to the "fray".

There's a monthly comp at York IWLA that is called the Fun Shoot for a reason. Good intro into competition shooting. Here's the link and scroll down to the Fun Shoot from last time and see the wording for how it goes. Note: Weather is iffy this time of year and there may or may not be any more this year.

Welcome from the Ag. Reserve of MoCo!

As for knowledge of firearms, especially C&R related items, you can't do much better than the C&R forum here at MDS. Mawkie, DoCo Overboard, Doctor_M and many others there are a font of knowledge that is virtually unparalleled anywhere else. They also happen to be a bunch of really nice guys as well.

Welcome and:thumbsup::thumbsup: for an excellent Intro and first post. I will point out that Garands are like potato chips, "You can't just have one".

As far as competitive shooting goes I have a couple of suggestions.

First if you haven't shot competitively a tuneup of your skills may be in order. For that I recommend Project Appleseed as a great introduction to organized shooting events.

Since you like history and military firearms a natural for you would be CMP competitions. Check with local CMP affiliated clubs for local activities. Here is a link to the CMP Compete page: https://thecmp.org/competitions/

My club, Southern Lancaster County Farmer-Sportsmen’s Association ( https://www.slcfsa.org/ ) holds CMP shoots (open to non members) almost every month except November. Check the club calendar on the club link for dates and check with the match director for specifics. We have two types of matches CMP Rifle and CMP Sniper and get all skill levels from junior shooters to expert.

    Link to CMP Rifle:
    https://www.slcfsa.org/activities/cmp-rifle/

    Link to CMP Sniper:
    https://www.slcfsa.org/activities/cmp-sniper/

And be sure to check the MDS Competitive Shooting section for other competitions.

Hey Mike, glad you found us. I used to work with Mike and Dan at said gun shop.

Give me a shout if you want to participate in a competition (at the AGC) the first week of November. Easy to shoot and fun.

    Welcome aboard!
You might try an AGC Falling Steel or a 3-gun (which you can shoot as a 2 gun match (pistol & rifle) if you don’t want to mess with a shotgun.
    Great fun and low key.

Welcome to MDS! My first advice is to get your C&R License. We have great discussions here and I am sure you will learn more about our rights and our guns on this site.
