620 green for bedding AR barrels and the very rare dab of blue for a screw

This ^^ The only reason to use red loctite is for something like a gas block that gets very hot, in which case the blue will not work. Red loctite is very difficult to break on small screws. Blue and purple will come off but will not come loose from normal recoil and handling.

Back on topic, OP, whoever said you only need a tiny drop of blue or purple on a tiny fastener is spot on and I’ve found it often easiest to line the alcohol-cleaned-threads fasteners up in a row, apply the blue or purple Loctite to the end of a toothpick and then use that pin tip to apply an appropriate amount, right where it’s needed.

When I was doing RC helis, I would put a drop of blue on a scrap of plastic, then just dip the tip of the screw in it.
