    Single action Barrell length?

I've got a hankerin' for a Ruger Vaquero in 357mag but am struggling with the barrell length choice. What do you guys think, 4.62" or 5.5"?

I see little difference in the two. If you are going to be carrying it around a lot, then the shorter barrel is handier.

    I have a Super Blackhawk in 357 that’s a 6.5 inch barrel, but that’s a big old barrel.

This Vaquero would be a range and maybe camping/hiking pistol just cause I have it. More if an addition to a collection.

I am unaware they ever made a Super Blackhawk in 357.

I have an old model Blackhawk in 357 with 4 5/8" barrel, definitely feels better that the longer barreled versions.

I suspect that the difference in velocity between the two barrel lengths will be less than 100 fps. See http://ballisticsbytheinch.com/357mag.html to draw your own conclusions.

If you don't mind losing some sight radius, the shorter barrel will be more convenient to have along.

I use my 7.5” Super Blackhawk to hunt in Maryland. If it didn't shoot as well as it does I would have the barrel cut back to 6.5” since that easier to holster/unholster.
I would prefer for a 5.5” gun but Maryland says that is a no-no for deer.
